Do you look great as a blonde?

I have medium brown shoulder length hair which is mainly salon coloured every 6 weeks or so. The grey roots are starting to show after 3 weeks so I use the Wella spray to disguise them. It works well but dries out my hair! I would like to lighten the shade to some sort of caramel / dark blonde but don't want high lights as they also had a drying effect previously! Would there be a lot of peroxide used to lighten say by 3 or 4 shades? I think I would get longer out of the colour this way. Any advice and experiences welcome! Are you happy that you've gone from brunette to blonde?

I'm very pale and pink skinned so I'd look dreadful.

I was blonde in my youth so my highlights look quite natural. Ask your colourist for help to choose a shade that suits you. I haven't noticed any drying effect from my highlights, in fact I like the feel of freshly highlighted hair as it feels more smooth.

A bonus for me is, as my greys come in, the blend with my highlights. OP, you may not have enough greys to benefit from this effect yet.

I got fed up of the regrowth, so last time I had it coloured, I had silver and steel sections put through. Now the regrowth looks much more natural, and I'm hoping as time goes on, I might even be able to go natural. Next time, I'll have more silver put through (and might have a lilac wash through too). To get the silver in, I had to have sections bleached first, but my hair has recovered quite well with some TLC (and Olaplex).

I think as long as you stick to the right tones for your colouring (I'm cool toned, so cool silvers theoretically work well for me), you should be able to carry off any colour - it's just getting the right nuance.

I look awful medium brown. I grew all of my blonde highlights out and went natural. It took nearly a year.

I was just a block of brown.
I looked a lot older as well.

I had highlights in July and look so much better. I was blonde as a child, so maybe my skin tone suits blonde better?

My hair isn't dry at all.

Go a couple of shades lighter first of all.

Other people thought so - I once had my photo taken by a Debbie Harry fan who thought I was her double - but my natural brown suits my skin much better (very pale skin and blue eyes).

It was a bit of a red flag for certain kinds of wanky bloke, unfortunately.

My hair is naturally a dark auburn colour and I've been blonde twice, both times looked pretty dreadful as I have a quite red complexion so not for me!

Ok thanks for all the replies and hints! I'm naturally a brunette and was even slightly darker as a child and have green eyes. I guess I will have to be careful with choosing the right shade compared to some of you who were blonde as children. My skin tone is fairish and I'd say I'm nearly 50% grey in my 40's! Maybe it's from all that colouring over the years!

Yes
I was born to be blonde I’m 67 as the grey is coming in it blends well with the blonde and brown

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/11/2019 17:33

As an ex red head, turned strawberry blonde, morphed into a pale caramel, I hope I do. It's great being this hair colour. My grey is coming in white and looks like very expensive highlights Smile

As a natural blonde, it's a lifelong annoyance.

Nat6999 · 05/11/2019 17:38

My natural hair colour is dark brown. I have been blonde since I was a teenager, my facial colouring is fair & my blonde hair never looks wrong, I tried a couple of times to go back to my natural colour, but just looked ill & went back to my blonde.

SallyAnne89 · 05/11/2019 18:06

Highlights don't have to be streaks of bright blonde. Then can be a subtle blonder shade a couple of shades lighter than your natural hair colour in a fine natural weave. With the right hairdresser there shouldn't be much Damage done at all.
If you can afford it see a colour technician. They should have a level 3 in colour, not cutting like most stylists will have.

I went bleach blonde (from very dark brown with about 30% grey). I found my original colour suited me less — as your hair goes grey you also lose pigment in your skin. I think it suits me way better blonde and growing-out dark roots look a lot better than grey roots + dark hair (IMO)! I also mess about a bit with pastel streaks. It’s still high-ish maintenance but I love it.
