Where can I fit more steps in?

I've just bought myself a new fitbit and am subsequently trying to increase my step count per day but how??

My current day looks like this
Wake up, dressed, potter etc -500 steps
Drive to work - 40miles unable to walk
Park in far end of car park and go into work -900 steps
Walking to meetings during the day -1000 steps
Walk to local shop at lunch -2000 (I only get 30nmins lunchbreak so this is the furthest I can go)
Afternoon working -500 steps
Walk to car-900 steps
Drive home

So only half my days allowance of 10k steps
I then have to fit in another 5000 steps in the evening.
I cant fit anymore in during the day as it would reduce my work output and that's not really acceptable.

I go to the gym 2 to 3 days a week I cant go every day as I have evening calls to do. The gym sometimes gets me into the 9000s

But how do I reach the heights of 15k as some of my.fitbit friends do daily???

What else can I fit in?

Do you need to? Wouldn't 15 minutes concentrated cardio or something to raise your heart rate be more beneficial that hitting a number of steps?

Tend to agree with HeadBrickWall, but also understand the target obsession. You can march around your house in the evenings?

Walk around a bit more at work - instead of emailing or phoning, get up to talk to people?

Hula hooping will add you steps even though it's not actually stepping! Plus it's an easy but effective cardio exercise to do at home, and tones your middle area. 15 to 20 mins a day is easy enough to fit in.

Every time you need the loo, walk to the furthest one in the building.

Park you car a distance from home rather than on your drive and walk the rest of the way home. If you don’t feel safe leaving it there overnight, then walk out later in the evening to pick it up and park on your drive.

I always walked the long way round to the loo at work. Retired now so I spend 25 mins or so in the morning walking/dancing around in front of TV to add 3000 steps. Sometimes I ask Alexa to play disco music then I jig about and watch TV with the subtitles on!

Dancing to the radio in the kitchen in the evening while cooking adds steps. Also, I go by my average steps over the week, so gym and weekends could be days when you "make up" steps for your overall steps for the week. Fitbit gives you the average step over the week in its weekly report.

Park your car further away.
Always run upstairs to talk to someone rather than calling up the stairs (at home) or emailing (at work)
Be the person who jumps up if the landline or doorbell ring.
Put your phone on the far side of the room from you so you have to jump up every time it pings or rings.
I dance around the kitchen too while prepping food or folding laundry. It all adds up.

Is it an office based job? Can you stand up and walk around while you are on the phone?
When you get a coffee, walk around as you wait for the kettle.
When you cook or make a drink in the evening.

I find all the little bits add up- that's where you are missing out, I think.

When I'm working I get up every half hour to make a drink or do some stretches. Otherwise I stiffen up and get neck pain.

Taking public transport where possible might do the trick. For example just the walk to my local bus stop is 1k steps each way.
