USB drive compatible with Linux and Windows?

I don't know much about computer stuff.

Anyway, my husband (who is currently living overseas) put Linux Ubuntu on my laptop and PC ages ago. He's not a fan of windows and thought it would rid me of the constant Windows Updates I was getting and so on. And it's usually no different when I'm just using the internet but it's caused problems when I'm trying to do other stuff (such as update my CV).

I need to move some files (documents and photos) onto a USB for our visa application. So I figured I should get a decent sized USB to transfer the files over. A look around Currys revealed everything was for Windows or MAC. But I gather than Linux is different and might require something else?

Can anyone advise on a USB (or similar) that I can move files from my Linux PC to a Windows PC for printing? I will ask my husband as well but thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks!

In this case I think it just that the descriptions don't tend to mention linux. I've been using it over 15 years now, and haven't had any issues with USB drives, either ones I've bought or those I've been lent.

It usually things that need particular driver software, printer/scanners etc that you have to check carefully.

If it's just a few documents, a small USB stick would do (I doubt you could get one smaller than 8Gb these days anyway).

They're ready formatted for Windows, and Linux will just chug along with whatever format they are, no need to do anything other than plug it in.

But if you want to print them, is there any reason why you can't from the Linux machine ? Certainly HP have fantastic Linux support ...

Alternatively, put both machines on a network, and transfer files that way.

If your Windows PC is the printer PC, you should also be able to print to it over the network from your Linux machine (depending on which flavour of Windows you're rocking).

Hi thanks for the replies.

I don't have a printer at home unfortunately. I'm not sure how many pages I'll be printing but it will definitely be more than a few. So I need to find somewhere to print them (possibly work if they say it's ok) that maybe have Windows instead.

Managed to get a USB after some discussion with a SA, so hopefully there will be no issues.

When I wanted a lot of copies of printing done, a local(ish) art supplies shop did it for a very reasonable fee. They also could scan odd-sized stuff which we needed when our lease documents had to be recorded.
