Just that really. I had two fillings today and both look white? Why aren’t they silver like my last one?

NHS dentists do use amalgam fillings yes. You can get white fillings but usually have to pay. However, the last time my DD needed a small filling I said to the (NHS) dentist I would pay extra for the white filling and he told me no need as he only uses white anyway so I guess it’s up to the individual dentist.

How strange! When the check up he said white is £120 each?

Small surface fillings and fillings on 'visible' near the front are usually white/tooth coloured now. My white fillings have not survived though, but the amalgam are going strong 10+ years later

White fillings used t be weaker but there is a new adhesive type which requires less drilling and is just as strong as amalgam.
