Not sure how I feel about this. Doesn't say whether there was an underlying condition which could have contributed but could be possible. I had a dog that hated fireworks and would shake uncontrollably, pace and cling to us, so I do get it's distressing.

All of this talk about them being banned though, where I live you can still hear the official displays some distance away and obviously neighbouring properties will have pets, so banning them for private displays doesn't really help.

My dog used to hate thunderstorms too, there's nothing you can do about those so I wonder sometimes whether people should just ride it out at this time of year. It's a few days after all. Probably being unreasonable! Grin

A dog near us got spooked over the weekend by a firework from a private display and disappeared for over 12 hours.

Luckily he was found safe and well but I felt so bad for the owners :(

This puppy clearly had an undiagnosed heart problem and would have died if it experienced any loud noise

What? How on earth could you possibly know that?

I'm amazed that silent ones aren't more freely Available.

Tonight.... This will be us and our dogs..

The breeder I got my working cocker from set fireworks off when the pups were tiny to get them used to that and shotguns. She loves fireworks now because she thinks she going picking up.

But my friend has a Cyprus poodle that shakes, wees and is absolutely terrified of them. It’s so heartbreaking to see because there’s nothing you can do. I don’t think they should be sold to the public.

@MustardScreams my dog's breeder lives literally in the middle of nowhere so when we got him I bought a cd with all different noises such as hoovers, lorries, buses, fireworks etc.

He was never scared of anything until, as I said, someone let a noisy firework off just as we walked past their house. It screeched over our heads and my poor dog was terrified.

the ad I've just been served is 'how to stop dog barking' - I'm also a bit in the 'one fewer dog, good' camp...

answer seems simple. No sales of fireworks to the general public. Organised displays Sat before bonfire night only (or clashes with Remembrance weekend). If weather forces cancellation, tough - see you next year. Similar limits for Diwali - one night only.

and let's have Halloween Oct 31 only and easter and tatmas not starting until one week before. Wouldn't it be great?

People have been letting fireworks off since lunchtime here in daylight. My dog won’t even go out for a quick toilet before it starts to gets crazy. He’s been having accidents in the house too 🤦🏻‍♀️

No private citizen should be able to purchase explosives imo. When I lived in Brixton this time of year was hellish because of all the teenagers/young men lobbing fireworks at one another in the street. In another house we lived in our decking got scorched by a firework landing on it. There is no need for fireworks outside of properly organised displays.
