Impossible question, I know, but will there be a lot of fireworks tonight?

Or has everyone had their parties now? Asking because if there’s going to be loads, ds needs to be home because the dog (who is a shocking sexist) only wants either him or dp to protect her. And dp is away.......

Tonight should be quieter but tomorrow may be bad.

I am an idiot- I was thinking that today was the 5th!

There will probably be a few but lots tomorrow

TheQueef · 04/11/2019 12:11

Smile I've an old lady cat who is terrified of fireworks but tries to style it out with odd stretches Confused
She's had the thunder vest on a week already it needs a wash.

thedevilinablackdress · 04/11/2019 14:27

If you Google "fireworks displays near me" you will get info about organised events in your area.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/11/2019 15:06

Like Queef I think tonight will be quieter before more tomorrow, but hopefully that will be it for this year, until NYE of course.

Queef I googled the thunder vest as I didn't know what it was and now I'm intrigued - I found this:

www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/thundershirt-anxiety-calming-shirt-for-cats-small

Is this what you mean? Did it work? How did the cat take to having it put on and wearing it for a week?

It's the first bonfire night for my six month old foster kittens and they seem to be quite frightened. I've been keeping them in as much as I can, but they like to go out, so that's been unsettling for them, and obviously you can hear the fireworks inside anyway, and see some of the flashes through the glass door.

TheQueef · 04/11/2019 15:38

That's the thing Babs but you can get cheaper from Amazon.
We have a vivapet cheapie and it seems to do the job.
Ours only has two Velcro bits and once the neck one is fastened it's a doddle. (After the obligatory supercat dash)
When she first has it on she refuses to jump so will cry to be lifted in to the litter tray, after an hour she gets over it.
The difference here is instead of pacing from hiding space to hiding space she will get in bed and half sleep. Still jumps but doesn't hide.
I'm convinced it makes her feel safer and it definitely soothes her.
She was a rescue and is a cantankerous old sod, hates cuddles, hates being picked up, this makes us both feel better Grin

@BarbaraofSeville my dog has a thundershirt and it works really well. I wouldn't say he then completely ignores the fireworks but he does stop shaking. I don't leave it on for more than 2 hours at a time though, as it pretty tight (that's obviously the point) and he gets a bit hot.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2019 11:50

Thanks for the replies about the thundershirts. I'm still sceptical as to whether any of our cats will wear one and obviously it's too late for this bonfire night. I'm also kicking myself a little that I didn't think to get some Feliway as I've not tried that.

All I can do tonight is make sure all the curtains are closed, TV on to mask the noise a little, and give them a cuddle if they want one. They've also got plenty of hidey holes like under the sofa and down the side of the drawers, so I just chuck a few dreamies down there for them.

People round my way must have money to burn (literally!) because the fireworks have been going on for weeks and there were even a few last night even though it wasn't a night you'd have thought people would have events and the weather was dreadful.

Whattodoabout · 05/11/2019 11:52

Tonight will be the worst for obvious reasons. It will probably continue until this weekend then should tail off until New Year.

BertrandRussell · 05/11/2019 11:54

Ds has cancelled his date with the pub and the football to be home tonight. He’s a good lad!

I tend to stick the telly on with any old shit that featured animals.. That generally helps to calm my boy.

Fireworks are such a curse, aren't they?!

BarbaraofSeville · 05/11/2019 15:08

Ooh, animal programmes, that's a good idea, because the cats actually watch the TV then.

Or sports like football, rugby, track and field or gymnastics. Its the movement. I've had more than one cat mesmerised by the floor routine.

TheQueef · 05/11/2019 16:36

Bless ds Grin
We had a really close one last night, old lady cat slept on the pillow.
Someone mentioned classic fm I'm just looking it's started here already.
