What would you do with this amount of money each month ?

What would you do with £2,400 income a month ?

You don't have to buy food, pay bills/ mortgage/rent or do big house improvements (as that's already taken care of) . You do have to buy all your own clothes /stuff and that of your dc.

Well, invest most of it, obviously. How many children?

Rockbird · 04/11/2019 05:54

Replace my stupid car and make sure the children were doing all of the activities they would like to be doing for a start. I'd save the rest.

Boristhecats · 04/11/2019 06:17

I would save save save. I would put over half of that into pensions and saving accounts. Learnt the hard way you never know what life will throw at you.

OhioOhioOhio · 04/11/2019 06:18

Save.

Rickandportly · 04/11/2019 06:21

First few months I would spunk most of it up the wall on frivolous shit to be honest.

Then I’d save for us all to go travelling.

Rickandportly · 04/11/2019 06:23

“Learnt the hard way you never know what life will throw at you.”

Me too. Funny how different people have different perspectives. I live for the moment because the next second on this Earth isn’t guaranteed.

Kinsters · 04/11/2019 06:31

Save it. I don't like buying stuff, don't need any more clothes, bags or shoes. Would spend more on holidays and eating out though at the moment it's not like we have loads of things we want to do and can't afford so most of it would be saved.

TemporaryPermanent · 04/11/2019 06:34

Breathe a massive sigh of relief and stop worrying about having to go full time before I'm ready.

Fund a friend's son to have alternative education.

Fund my mother to go and live where she wants to.

Try to save, beyond that.

user1493413286 · 04/11/2019 06:36

First month spend a couple of hundred on new clothes, new coat and new winter boots.
In general I’d be saving a fair whack of it depending on my life circumstances. If I already had a lot of savings then I’d enjoy it doing things with my DC, not spending for the sake of it but getting that £40 throw that I always think I can’t justify or similar.
I recently had a big pay rise and as I have no savings I spend very little of the extra money and put it all away but once I have a nice amount for a rainy day I plan to enjoy the money a bit.

MerryDeath · 04/11/2019 06:41

i'd keep a percentage for stuff and save save save the rest

Rickandportly · 04/11/2019 06:46

In reality, if I had no mortgage or bills to pay out of it, we’d all go travelling on it indefinitely!

And I’d breathe for the first time in years. I have £50 a month for kids stuff and clothes from the charity shop at the mo!

OhTheRoses · 04/11/2019 06:48

Well I earn more than that but similar circs:

Hair: £140
Phones, mine and dd: £60
DD's allowance: £150
Visiting dd at uni monthly £250
Make- up and perfume: £25
Clothes/shoes £250
Socialising £75
General spends £300
Petrol/tax/ins/car service 150
Cat £120 (elderly)
Christmas £200
House stuff £100
Charities/donations £200

There is a lot that could be cut back but it's all relative. I appreciate I am very lucky.

I save more than I spend.

Shmithecat2 · 04/11/2019 06:50

Save half, keep half in your current account. If by the end of the month you have excess in your current account, transfer that to savings too and then then start again - save half, half in your current account. It's amazing how much you can save like that. I do something similar.

Lottelupin · 04/11/2019 06:54

I would cry with joy and relief.

Then I'd use a budget planning app so I didn't fritter it away.

I'd want to get some saving, some planned holidays and possibly a business investment out of it.

I'd be very very very careful at how much is spent (/wasted) on food/supermarket.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 04/11/2019 06:54

Save and travel to amazing places
Do an art course

Curtainly · 04/11/2019 06:57

I'd save half, and still be fairly frugal with the rest, but not too worried if that makes sense. So not spend £500 on a bag for the sake of it, but if I needed a bag and saw one I liked for £x buy it without too much worry. It's a lovely position to be in that offers security but I'd still be sensible whilst enjoying it.

Lottelupin · 04/11/2019 06:57

Sorry I'm so stupid forgot you didn't have to buy food.

Ok definitely budget planner. And save at least half. Probably more. And buy a property. Or a plot. Abroad for holidays and light. Cheaper as well.

Or an investment property to let out in a cheap area here.

Pixxie7 · 04/11/2019 06:59

I wish.

Beautiful3 · 04/11/2019 07:05

I would save half away. Buy myself some nice practical clothes and take the family away on holiday. Save up for a new kitchen and bathroom.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/11/2019 07:54

I'd go and live somewhere with a better climate than the UK and run a cat rescue charity as well as read, walk, swim a lot.

Riverviews · 04/11/2019 08:02

Buy another flat/house

fogginghell · 04/11/2019 09:07

@Shmithecat2 that would work for someone who isn't as click-happy as I am on amazon 😩

So at the moment I save 1k a month. At the moment the money I have saved up is invested into something which gives me a return randomly; it's not consistent but when I do it goes straight back into the investment pot. This chunk of money will eventually be used to pay off some of the mortgage.

The rest of it just disappears. I have no idea where and I don't know how to get a handle on it without being too tight ! 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Bloodybridget 3 dc

altiara · 04/11/2019 09:36

I’d save £2000 and keep £400 to spend a month Seeing as you’ve said all bills have been paid.
Some of the £2k per month would be a holiday fund, some would be for long term investment.

fogginghell · 04/11/2019 09:39

@OhTheRoses dh pays my mobile phone bill and any of my car related expenses as part of the household bills. Same goes for any travelling we do out of town. I also have dhs credit card which I use for food shop top ups/b&m type of homey spends.

I realise how skewed this looks but I'm the saver in the family so it's on me to save. Only problem is I don't think I'm doing the most amazing job and I think given my fortunate situation I could be handling it a lot more wisely - I just don't know how ! (Dh is a useless saver so no pressure from him as even the 1k a month amazes him 😩😂 I think I need a little pressure though !)

I think I like the idea of a budgeting app! Can anyone recommend a really good one please ?
