Advent calendars (not chocolate ones!) for my nieces

My friend's lovely daughters - primary school aged - were entranced by my M&S beauty advent calendar last year and a Boots Christmas skincare set I gave my friend.

They are quite girly girls - love Frozen / princesses, pretty hair things and nail polish, lip gloss and 'dressing up' makeup - which their mother lets them use for play dressing up (only!).

So I was wondering if there were any advent calendars around that might work for this age group - eg ones which contain the glittery jewellery stuff like from Claire's Accessories, or a 'light' version of the adult male up / skincare ones?

Thanks for any inspiration!

I got one for my DD last year that had things like mini soaps, bubble baths etc in. She is an adult but I don't think there was anything in it that would have been unsuitable for children. I can't remember the brand sorry but I bought it off Ebay so maybe if you have a search you will find something?

These are not bargainous at all (no idea what your budget is) but they are beautiful. They aren’t only available direct so you might find them cheaper elsewhere like amazon.

wildhairdontcare · 04/11/2019 05:27

Acessorize do a kids one.

ooonicorn · 04/11/2019 06:02

Asda had a frozen one the other day

PurpleFrames · 04/11/2019 06:11

I saw a few in Sainsbury with the current characters Frozen etc. One was a different charm each day to make a bracelet.

If it's more beauty you're after they actually do 12 day ones in Poundland whose new ranges are cruelty free.

Thank you all for your suggestions - I will check them out today

You can by reusable Advent calendars made of little decorated cardboard boxes you pop treats into. I did one for my daughters new home last year. She’s returned the boxes for filling this year. It’s nice you can choose what to put in.

quirkychick · 04/11/2019 07:56

I have a reusable felt one that we've used for years. You could put what you like in it. We put in mini decorations for one of those little wooden trees and small chocolates.

OtraCosaMariposa · 04/11/2019 08:07

It's a nice idea but so much tat and single use plastic! Tat from Claire's will be in the bin by New Year.

Get a chocolate one. A nice one not cheap Cadbury's shite. Or a reusable one.

tinselvestsparklepants · 04/11/2019 08:24

Hobbycraft sell a reusable one.

Damntheman · 04/11/2019 10:03

Yes make one! These pakke-kalendar are traditional in scandiland :) You can pick up small things, chapsticks, tiny eye shadows, sparkly nonsense, novelty erasers etc and put them in numbered paper bags (or in those absolutely lovely cardboard houses with drawers for the presents). Honestly the kids LOVE them. To warn, they can get pricey so don't be tempted to spend too much on each day. That said, if your friend wants to go in on it you could do 12 days each - my MIL does this for my kids.

Thank you all.

@AstrosFan - I got the non bargainous Meri Meri hair accessories one. (Got it from Amazon as it was sold out on the site you linked, and it was cheaper!). The older girl will love it and will keep her in hair bands etc for ma y years to come.

@Ricekrispie22 - the Next unicorn one is perfect for the younger girl.

@everyone else - I do like the idea of a reusable make your own. This May be something I can aim for next year as I get to know the girls better (and plan for in advance).

Start early and hit all the sales OP, it's the best way to make 'make your own' ones cheap :)

Aridane · 05/11/2019 09:16

Thanks - that’s a very good idea!

The girls are actually Moslem so I could do an Eid ‘advent’ calendar!

Glad to be of service Aridane. If they’re anything like my 3 DDs however the meri meri advent calendar will keep them in hair accessories for about 3 months before they’ve lost them all! Hmm
