Is there such a thing as a professional sofa repairer?

Brand new sofa bed. Very expensive so can't just suck it up really.

It's a navy fabric and my son has managed to put a small rip in the seat. With a crafting tool so it's a nice precise little rip HmmOnly a few cms but it'll just pull and grow larger with people sitting on it. The cushion doesn't come off the sofa (it's part of the actual bed bit) and you can see the white foam inside it

Where can I look to find someone who'll come out and repair it professionally? I've put a few stitches in it but it's not going to cut the mustard - I can already see where the tension of someone sitting on it will just pull it open again

Thanks

Yes. Not sure where you are but Knights upholstery did mine last year. They are based in Coventry but I don't live in Coventry. Im sure there will be many similar places

Yes, it's an upholsterer. Google 'reupholstery your city' and you'll get lots of options

PollyFeather · 02/11/2019 18:44

I'm near oxford. I'm trying to think what to google! I can't take the cushion to anyone as it's not mobile so it needs to be someone who comes out

Good to hear there's people out there though so I'll look more

An upholsterer may be able to repair it but you'll see and feel it.

Is it on a seat cushion? If so, they may be able to provide you with a replacement in the same fabric if you contact the manufacturer?

PollyFeather · 02/11/2019 18:48

It's on the seat yes but it's not a cushion. It's a sofa bed so nothing comes off there of that makes sense.

I've been googling upholstery folk but I need someone who can do an invisible repair I think as the sofa is only 2 months old

brand new?
ask where you bought it.

PollyFeather · 02/11/2019 18:51

John Lewis

Bought end of August and they don't do the damn thing anymore! Although I can access my orders and ask I suppose

And here's the split. Inexpertly repaired by me. I know it doesn't look much but it'll just split right back open and tear more with weight on it

You could try a good seamstress rather then an upholsterer, i could invisibly mend that, but am too far away.. If they darn it properly and strengthen the warp and weft threads it should be fine.

redchocolatebutton · 02/11/2019 19:45

there should be an extra piece of fabric underneath the sofa for whoever repairs it to use.

Katinski · 02/11/2019 19:48

But you've googled 'upholstery repair'? Cos i just did and it's thrown up results round my way(birmingham)
B.annoying, i know,but fixable.Smile good luck.

Ooh didn't google upholstery with repair!! I'll do that thanks

And yes I'll look under the sofa for any spare material - great tip thanks
