If you could do any type of holiday with a family of teenagers, what would it be?
AI complex?
Road trip?
Lakes and mountains?
Cruise?
Something else?

A villa with a pool, a bus stop, and a friend each for company.

Skiing or Center Parcs

Winter holiday - skiing
Summer holiday - in Britain, usually the Lake District or Devon. Staying in a youth hostel with lots of similar families, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, gyhll scrambling, cycling. Evenings on night hikes, den building and camp fires. Essentially very active. The teenagers have made great friends this way. Occasionally I may also get to read a book!

Lovely cottage in the middle of nowhere with great scenery, lots of walks, lots of reading and wine drinking.

A quiet week at home when all my friends and family thought I was away. Perfect. Sorry, don't enjoy holidays much.

Packed with things to do. Museums, walks, trips to interesting places. But maybe my teenagers are not normal Grin.

DS really liked the two cruises we have done but he loves the gym and swimming, the quizzes. He also liked the 24/7 unlimited food and he likes formal dining with long chats. But he loved the canal boat holiday we had and enjoyed steering the boat and doing the locks, he was 14 at the time. They may be allowed to steer from 12 but you would need to check. He does all the yomping through mud with cadets, I did some hols like that but my health means it’s not possible now.

I love an AI, but we don’t stay still and do like to go out. Barbados ticked the boxes for us on that. I like to hire a car and explore, so a mix of lazing on a sun bed and exploring.

Road trip with spectacular scenery and sites starting with a few days in a city. Time to pause in a couple of areas. Done Iceland, California, Northern Spain, Yucatan.

But I'm looking for ideas for next year. I'm thinking Norway and Sweden. Any tips welcome.

An old and cosy stone cottage in the middle of fuck all nowhere with nothing but places to walk in peace for miles around.

And a dog.

GorkyMcPorky · 02/11/2019 09:46

We've just done our third Canvas/Eurocamp type caravan holiday and I'm not keen to do another. Next year it will be camping in the summer in Pembrokeshire and an AI hotel in the Canaries in October.

My DD (9) does nothing but whinge on holiday and frankly it's spoiled the whole experience. Wouldn't hurt her to do without TBH.

I've done mixture over the years and enjoyed them all for different reasons. This year trying to decide between cottage in the Highlands or villa with pool by the sea, needs to have rocks to jump into sea from and some nice restaurants. Those are probably my two favourite holidays.

WaxOnFeckOff · 02/11/2019 10:45

Should add that we'll probably still have adt teens with us but ours are quite quiet. The villa works well for us as they get their own rooms, they prefer the sea to the pool scene at a hotel but I like the peace of not having to fight for sunbeds whenever I feel like a relax by the pool. We all enjoy eating out.

We like the remoteness and scenery in the Highlands, usually do a drive or walk/boat trip and lunch out and settle in in the evenings with home cooked dinner a few drinks and play board games/cards.
