Worcester Combi Boilers for DumDums

Afternoon MN

Hoping to benefit from your experience. Sorry it's an inane topic but I could do with tips.
So I have a worcester combi boiler and have just had it serviced and a new seal done. Also a new bathroom radiator.
I used to have a gas fire but that had to be isolated so am relying on my central heating.
I don't have smart meters so am hoping one of you might be able to advise or at least tell me what you do.
I am in a 2 bed end terrace, 2 kids and feel the cold.
Have set heating to come on between 6 and 8am and 3pm to 8pm.
Target temp is 21 degrees and radiators were set to 3 downstairs and 2 upstairs but as it has got colder I have had them on the dial that lets all the heat in.
Rest of time so 8pm to 6am and 8am to 3pm it is on the frost setting when it will kick in if temp falls below 10 I think.

So questions for the hard of understanding ie me!

  1. Am I better off financially having it on a timer (am home at the moment) or would I be better off in manual mode all the time?) In other words how punitive is it to have a decent ambient temp as opposed to it havingto start from scratch twice a day?
  2. Does 21 seem too low to you?
  3. Do you use less gas if radiators are on set levels 3 and 2 or can I just have them on the influx setting regardless, is there a lot in it?

If you don't mind sharing I would be grateful to know how long you have your heating on for, what target temp, what radiator settings and what impacts you think it has on your bills. Many thanks in advance X

Mine is on 6-11am and 5-11pm. If I'm cold during the day I'll boost it if required. Not sure what my hearers are at - probably 4 or 5 mostly. You would use lower for rooms you dont use so much. 21 is higher than I have mine - normally around 18/19 degrees.

Thanks pixie. I have a gas-elec direct debit of 89 pounds/month. They estimated that based on there just being the three of us. I am just worried that with kids leaving lights on like it's bloomin' Blackpool Illuminations and with the heating on a lot, I am going to face a massive bill. Do you have smart meters?
