How much do you spend a week on groceries?

Inspired by a post I saw on a recent Facebook page with someone claiming they can feed themselves for £20 a week. She claims she is also eating healthily. I'm torn between struggling to believe this, and then wondering if I just spend more than average. We're a family of 4 (2 adults, 5 year old DD1 and 2 year old DD1). Average weekly shop for me (for all food, toiletries, cleaning products and pull-ups) is about £100-£110. And that's with trying to be reasonably careful, but also wanting to get a decent amount of fruit and veg each week. On top of that we usually have a take-away each week for about £20.

How much do you spend? And if you've managed to be much cheaper than me, how do you manage it?

I spend roughly £40-£50 per week for myself and one 6 year old DS. That includes toiletries and cleaning products.

DS is still on free school meals as he's in Year 2 so this will increase next year when I'll be paying for dinners or extra food if he wants a packed lunch.

Around £120 per week for 2 adults and an almost 2 year old. I think this is a lot though and am looking at ways to cut back a bit.

I did used to feed myself on £20 a week 10 years ago but I had no choice as it's all I had left after bills at that time. Lots of rice and pasta based dishes.

To be honest I wouldn't force myself to stick to a budget unless I had to for financial reasons. I buy what I want now, I don't like food waste so I do only get what I need and I meal plan each week, but I don't set myself a spending limit. Eating well and healthily is important imo and I won't scrimp on food. After spending a year doing it in my youth I can tell you it's not fun.

I’ve just spent £41 of food for two weeks for myself and my teen daughter, we didn’t need any toiletries. Lots of fruit and eggs, potatoes, rice. I’m vegetarian though so no meat. Tesco sell vegetarian 3 for 5 ready items such as fausages. Doesn’t include lunches though. I just snack on celery, tomatoes etc during the day and my daughter has lunches at school. If I had to add lunches and toiletries it would be I guess a third more.

Also it’s because I meal plan, I have no budget restrictions as such.

There are 5 of us, I meal plan for dinners and my weekly delivery comes to around £50 (that's food only). But I am terrible for doing top up shops so probably spend £100 a week in total.

Around £100 for DH, Me, and 3DC. It’s mainly toiletries and nappies that bulk the cost up, we meal plan so don’t spend too much on food
