Severe ear pain, no fever?

My kids haven’t been susceptible to ear ache so I have no experience, bar a few obvious fever/ ear ache/ drainage infections.

Youngest was walking upstairs to get ready for a Halloween party and burst into tears. Sudden severe ear pain, high pitched cry, quite scared and got barely move. No fever. Still has no fever and as soon as calpol wears off she’s back in tears and saying ow. Obviously really painful, they’re pretty hard normally.

Does anyone have experience?

I had this. I did have an ear infection but it was a fungal infection so didn’t really give me much pain or temperature. However when the ear drum perforated I knew about it. The pain was incredible and I actually didn’t know what to do. It subsided after a while but whilst it lasted I was totally unable to do anything but whimper.

I would take your DC to the doctors ASAP.

I had severe pain a few months back, it affected the whole side of my face...it turned out that one of my teeth had a hole in it and that was what causing all the pain! Maybe get them checked out at the dentist to rule it out?

Poor girl. Severe pain like that must be caused by something, I would have it looked at by your doctor. A decongestant may help ease it a bit, it does me.

Another vote for teeth - dh just had something similar, went to the walk-in centre who could see nothing wrong with his ear. He then tried the dentist (but was still convinced it was his ear) because it hurt even more when he swallowed and it turned out to be a crack in his tooth.

Hope he feels better soon - ear pain is the worst.

I haven’t been able to get an appt ( out of hours starts at 6 though and I’ll get one)

I would guess teeth, he has hypoenameled teeth
