Dogsitting - how much should I pay?

My cleaner is staying with my dog over the Christmas holidays. Her sister is visiting, so she'll be staying here too.

How much should I pay her? We have a warm/friendly relationship so we're in danger of remaining in polite silence forever more.

I was thinking £40/day? West London. Dog is easy, lazy, 2 x short walks a day (she's arthritic).

Is this for the full two weeks?

EntropyRising · 01/11/2019 07:06

One week.

Official house sitters are about £50 per night but the actual sitter gets about £30 I think. How about offering £250 for the week ?

Do you mean through an agency, @rookiemere? I presume that's where the £20 goes?

£250/week sounds about right, I like that it's a round figure.

Yes I looked at an agency, but our wonderful borrowmydoggy lady does it for free ( lots of tummy rubs).

House sitter UK wouldnfind someone to do it for free

EntropyRising · 01/11/2019 07:44

I looked after a gorgeous dog from Borrow My Dog for free before I had my own dog. The dog was amazing, the owners unfortunately were shite and never bothered to even thank me (I had their key and dropped the dog off a couple of hours before they returned from the airport - I never heard from them again!).

I'm in London and pay £35 a day for my dog to stay with his boarder, £40 for weekends and bank holidays. I would have assumed the going rate is more if they stay at your house due to the inconvenience factor, but in this case maybe not as she's having her sister to stay at yours.

I pay £22 a day for dog sitting but that's in the comfort of their own home. This is dog sitting plus house sitting so £250 a week sounds good.

I’ve got two dogs. It’s £15 each per day for them to go into kennels, so I give son’s friend who stays to dog sit £30 per day and lots of food. So £210 per week.

I do really adore her, so I had planned on leaving a lot of nice food/alcohol behind for her. House will be Christmassy and nice.

I think 250/week is the winner. Thanks all.

Entropy I'm very grateful to my Borrowmydoggy lady - she's like a second doggy mum to rookiedog and I buy her presents and vouchers for a meal out at local dog friendly pub.

EntropyRising · 01/11/2019 09:04

I have no doubt that most do, rookie! They were so weird, when I met them I just thought we'd have a polite relationship in the usual way but it wasn't to be.
