Labour are a farce, it's beyond me why they have insisted on sticking with an unelectable leader but that's where we are. So, talk to me about tactical voting....

If you really want Boris out then you're going to have to vote for whichever candidate in your constituency has the best chance of beating the Tory candidate. Even if that candidate is Labour.

I'll be voting Labour because they stand the best chance in my constituency.

Yes, me too.

Dump Corbyn would be best.

There’s nothing I can do. I live in an extremely safe Tory seat. I’ll vote, not that there’s any point Angry

Nat6999 · 01/11/2019 14:06

Vote labour, voting for lib dems is as bad as voting Tory.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 01/11/2019 14:08

It is? How’s that?

Justanotherlurker · 01/11/2019 14:11

If your a remainer then vote LibDem.

I'm in a tight lib-con constituency so Lib dem gets my vote.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/11/2019 14:13

Labour... ... associate with terrorists.
Both political parties have associated with terrorists. Why do Labour get singled out for it?

Labour in general don't and it was stupid of the OP to point it out, they should have pointed out that a back bench opposition MP associating with known terrorists is so far removed from the active goverment paying lip service to globalised realpolitk.

His 'both sides' argument that him and his disciples fall back on has lots of caveats.

Wheat2Harvest · 01/11/2019 22:38

Your question suggests that it's a foregone conclusion that MNers won't want Boris as PM.

Some will, some won't.

Personally I feel that as things stand he is the best person for the job.

topoftheworld1 · 02/11/2019 04:03

You need to just hold your nose and vote labour. Everyone says they wouldn't vote for them because they can't stand corbyn but I don't think he'd last the distance anyway. He'd probably bankrupt the country before then. And although they'd do much better with a different leader they're not gonna get rid of him yet. A lot of labours money comes from the unions and they want corbyn there. Cannot bear the thought of Boris as pm so labour it is.

housemdwaswrong · 02/11/2019 04:40

I couldn't give a toss which individual is PM, Cameron, May, Johnson whoever. I care about the fact that leaving the whole brexit debacle aside, tories consistently promote policies that harm the majority and favour the few. Their leader can change, so basing a vote on that isn't the best plan I don't think anyway.

I'm in a safer than safe labour seat. If I wasn't I'd still be voting labour, based on their policies. I couldn't vote for more social cuts, at the same time as turning blind eye to corporation tax evasion, and people dying, still waiting for their universal credit to come through, because a gp letter confirming the patient has a terminal illness is not sufficient, especially if they are expected to live longer than 6 months, 7 months for example. I won't vote for 20000 less police officers, an education and health system that are being so underfunded that pupil's don't have textbooks, parents are buying toilet roll for the schools, and patients are waiting 4/5 years for joint replacement surgeries.

I don't care who's fronting it. It's inhumane, and I won't be party to it.

Rant over. (Its 4.40, and so far I've had no sleep, my brain is obviously working overtime).

Can't do copying on my phone but a pp said that he came back with a deal which was blocked. Complete rubbish.

He negotiated a withdrawal agreement and presented it to the House. Bills have several stages that they go through before they become law. This bill was given a 2nd reading.

The only thing Parliament blocked was his ridiculous timetable. He wanted it rushed through in a couple of days. That wouldn't have allowed time for the scrutiny that complex bills are always give. It didn't allow time for amendments which are often introduced at this stage (and which would have been needed because the bill jeopardised workers' rights and environmental protection).

Boris Johnson himself then decided not to bring the bill back to the House. He didn't want a 2nd referendum to give the country the opportunity to vote on his bill. Instead he called a general election, hoping to increase his majority so that any legislation he introduced will be passed with minimal scrutiny.

Yes lots of ideas of things to prevent him as PM.

Spend 5 minutes a day doing something - anything. Even if it's on social media call out spin and. rhetoric that are factually inaccurate.

•If you are in Johnson's constituency vote tactically so he loses his seat.

• if you are in another constituency vote tactically for whoever can beat the Tory unless you have a really nice moderate one (and many of those have been kicked out anyway).

• put party loyalty to one side if you have an extreme candidate. It's only for 5 years and you can go back to party loyalty once the party has been cleaned up.

• Become politically active - join a party closest to your beliefs and help clean it up.

• Join a local protest group.

• Recruit one friend to become more active pointing out Johnson's failings.

• Sign petitions or protest against underfunding of health or education, sign petitions or protest against power grabs by the executive,

• Spend your 5 minutes a day commenting or contributing to organisations like InFacts that try to fact check politicians spin.

• Comment against extremists on newspaper comment sections, social media, number 10 website etc.

• Write to your MP , write to thank other good MPs.

• Help crowdfund organisations that try to combat extremism or deceits.

Every little helps.

You’re voting for the party you think will bankrupt the country? No thanks.

1066vegan · 02/11/2019 08:09

@lonelyplanetmum loads of great ideas there

lonelyplanetmum · 02/11/2019 09:07

Everyone mentions Corbyn bankrupting the country but Keir Starmer, Hilary Benn, Yvette Cooper wouldn't let that happen.

The current Tory path will bankrupt individuals. Make no mistake those currently in power ( the ERG) have an ideology .Its a low workers' rights, low welfare state, low corporate tax , low regulation type economy. The ideology is like the libertarian approach in the US where millions of lower-income individuals simply can’t afford to survive - if Theresa job loss or medical bills they go bankrupt.

Make no mistake the survival of the fittest policies the gov are now planning set us on the same path as the US. This economic model leads to a lot of bankruptcies and people below the poverty line.

It's an incremental shift- look at lots of measures already taken here restricting legal aid , reducing disability benefits, trying to introduce employment tribunal fees, introducing the bedroom tax, attempt at white van man tax, but against increasing tax on those earning over £150,000, reducing central funding of local government, discussing obtaining US pharma products at increased prices, dropping food standards to US levels.

Read about the situation in the US because this is where the current path leads - https://www.debt.org/bankruptcy/statistics/

Sorry typo " there's a" not " Theresa" ! although I do wonder what she thinks now.
