What job can I do with few qualifications that's well paid?

Just pondering really. Have worked part time in childcare (level 3 qualified) for the past few years to fit around the children.

Now they are getting older I want to think about something else, my heart isn't really in childcare so not really thinking about working towards my level 5.

I'm 40 next year so don't want to train for years (plus Dh works mad hours and I've no family support so my dreams of doing nursing are out the window)

Can anyone give me any inspiration? What can I work as that gives me about minimum wage and hopefully further career prospects but without years of study? I've no problem with more further education but life is hectic with 4dc and I'm not sure I can cope with anything too hard.

*this is fairly lighthearted, I'm just having a moment and hoping I may get some inspiration that I've never thought off before.

Agree with retail - good opportunities for people who are looking for a career.

You could get into office work and take any number of qualifications. I am doing an accountancy qualification, home based study so fit it in when I can, and doing the actual job I am training for makes it much easier to learn.

To the PPs who mentioned project management - what qualifications are companies looking for ( I want to do a more well rounded role than pure accountancy)?

If you were previously interested in doing nursing then why not work for the NHS as a healthcare support worker? They earn a decent wage and you will be at the centre of nursing care! I'm a qualified nurse and can be so busy that I don't often get to spend quality time with my patients like the HCSW's do! There are always loads of jobs going and I think some places are beginning to do nurse training on the job if you work as a HCSW! Area dependant though I think.

Health Care Assistant. You can earn £10 an hour, £120 a shift. Even more if you do bank or night shifts .

Sales! I've always worked in sales and the money can be amazing if you are good at it. You usually don't need any qualifications to get into it. I'd recommend starting with a telesales job and building up from there.

Where are all these well paying retail jobs people keep mentioning?

I've managed departments and only ever earnt a few pence an hour above minimum wage. I'm now a deputy manager in retail but take home less than 18k a year after tax.

You only earn good money if you manage a large store or become an area/regional manager which involves long hours and lots of travel.
