DD is having an online tutor from a different country to learn a certain language. We started about 6 months ago, all good so far. We were paying the fee she asked for through Western Union, she receives the amount as per that date's exchange rate.
The tutor has texted me saying because the amount she receives varies every month, can we send her a set amount in her local currency. I don't think it's fair because this means the fee increases every month for us.
I don't have a problem paying few extra pounds every month, but it just feels unfair because she advertised for a certain amount of UK pounds and changing the agreement now.

Of course she's not being fair...she's being silly! I'm a freelance copywriter and I have clients all over the world. The exchange rate is just one of those things! I charge my clients the price that we decide on...and that's what they pay.

Tell her no.

It's something to negotiate with her, she can ask to change the agreement. It won't necessarily go up for you every month though - it depends on the exchange rate. I guess she's asking now because she's probably seen a large fluctuation in her income with all the Brexit volatility in the value of the pound.

If it was me I'd look at the current exchange rate, if she's translating the original GBP price into her local currency now and asking for that amount of local currency in future then she's wanting to bet that the pound is going to weaken further. Up to you whether you agree to take the other half of the bet (ie that the pound is going to strengthen or remain stable).
