Mopping is one of my jobs.

I am rarely in the house by myself so it is quite hard to find time to do it. We have a lot of hard floors downstairs - including hall, loo, kitchen and utility - all large spaces. I try to mop weekly and don't walk on it wet (my dsis does apparently! Shock )

I normally mop it all together and work towards the front door or the stairs and either go out or go upstairs for a few hours. Prime times to do it are - on the way to church (always makes us late), bedtime (cba at that time) or if DH is out (would rather drink Wine ).

As it is such a big space it takes at least 20 mins, and I always want to ask mumsnet how others do it.
do you walk on it?
do you mop everything in one go?
do you then just sit in one room without moving for an hour or so?
when do you do it?

If you live on your own or have a cleaner who does it that will not much help so no need to let me know - thanks though Smile

thanks awfully.

I use kettle water, floor cleaner and a splash of bleach in figure of eights. Don't walk on it, but I wring the mop out as much as possible so doesn't get very wet so only takes 5 mins absolute maximum.

I do it when kids aren't here (school/nursery) or usually really late at night. Ive started switching my day so I do my night time jobs in the morning but don't think I'm there yet

I mop a room after I clean and tidy it. Start at the back of the house so bathroom cleaned, floor swept and mopped, door closed (windows open). I then do the utility Inc a load of laundry etc. Floors mopped. Doors shut. Kitchen takes longest so usually bathroom and utility done by then.

I have a spray flat headed mop though and my floors don't actually get that "wet".

I have a little robot called Lucas who potters round a room cleaning the floor whilst I am doing other chores I can put him on when I leave for work in the morning and leave him to it. Grin

Always use boiling water
Start on the outside of the rooms and work your way in- leaving a runway to the sink and exit
I use fresh water per room/ area
NEVER walk on mopped wet floors!
I do sometimes skate around on tea towels..

This being said, I have a cleaner who does a v thorough job once a week so once in a blue moon I do it!

I too have hard wood floors but I do add a small amount of Milton to the water and I clean my mop and bucket every time with Milton!

I mop once a week, I use very hot water and alternate with zoflora one week and wood floor cleaner the next. Hoover than mop once the baby is in bed. Mop bathroom floor, living room, hall and kitchen. Go up for a shower and floors are dry by the time I come down. I love clean floors - just wish I could be arsed to do them more often. They’re rotten by the time the week rolls round between kids and Prams and dogs !

I've literally just sat down from mopping the kitchen floor :) I use one of those magic rubber brooms to get all the 'bits' of catfood and fur, then I have a vileda mop with strands of blue and white cloth things, little red scrubby dots and two scrubby pads at the base of the handle. Steaming hot water from the tap, a load of bright yellow Flash liquid stuff and lots of elbow grease.

Mr Twiglet leaves tea-stains around the bin Hmm which always need a good scrub, and the cat likes to pick up mouthfuls of wet food and drop them on the floor, so he can pretend he's a savage wildcat... bloody men!
