Liverpool lunch/dinner

Hi all,

I actually live near Liverpool but don’t know it too well. Just before Christmas my mum and stepdad are coming to visit and we are going to go to Liverpool for the day for the Xmas markets and see the lights etc.

I want to take them somewhere nice/unusual/quirky/special for a lunch or early dinner, something the fits the Christmassy/winter theme would be nice perhaps. I love the look of the Liberte igloos but unsure if we can eat there and unsure if we can take my daughter who is 6yo there.

Any suggestions would be welcome, thankyou!

(Ps: I don’t need super cheap but nothing too pricey either!)

Not very festive, but the Pen Factory is great. Good food and a nice vibe, and everyone I have been there with likes it (kids, my parents in their mid 70s, ‘cool’ friends etc)

I was in Liverpool last weekend. We ate at Maray on Friday.... it was delicious food, would recommend it!

Both look lovely but don’t seem to have the kind of “talking point” factor im after.

Loads of great independents down Bold st. I particularly recommend the Italian Club or Mowgli (best food I've ever eaten).

Jacksback · 30/10/2019 21:12

Mowgli castle street
Indian street food , really pretty inside
Or panoramic 34 floors up , great views , 360 degrees
As per pp lots of trendy small independents bold street area
I love salt house tapas Liverpool 1
Nice small plates and a pretty little restaurant
Needless to say make sure you book
Hope you have a great time

danadas · 30/10/2019 21:14

Mowgli is fabulous.

Baltic Market - something for everyone there www.balticmarket.co.uk/

beckyvardy · 30/10/2019 21:27

Casa Italia on Stanley street. Gorgeous. Not pricey. Always packed out.

stoplickingthetelly · 30/10/2019 21:31

I also love Mowgli. The one on water street can be booked, but the one bold street can’t. I’ve eaten at Salt House tapas a number of times and it’s always been lovely. Panoramic has fantastic views and does a lovely afternoon tea, but I find it a bit stuffy to be honest. Fazenda is good if you like steak or the Italian fish club if you like seafood.

Lj8893 · 30/10/2019 21:35

Mowgli and salt house look amazing but won’t suit my daughter!

Panoramic looks a little too posh!

Want somewhere abit more quirky/interesting/fun!

Definitely case Italia

MadeinBelfast · 30/10/2019 21:41

Is Alma de Cuba still there? Went years ago but the building was quirky and I'm sure they'd great Christmas decorations if I'm remembering it correctly.

StripyTShirt · 30/10/2019 21:41

The Club House Liverpool One. Has a Christmasy feel with all the twinkling lights and right in the thick of all the actionGrin

gobbynorthernbird · 30/10/2019 21:42

I think Liverpool now has an El Gate Negro. The Manchester one is bloody brilliant.

CandyflossKid · 30/10/2019 21:47

Another vote for The Clubhouse here

fartingrainbows · 30/10/2019 21:47

The smuggler's cove on the Albert dock? It's child friendly, fun and the dock will be very Christmassy.

Lj8893 · 30/10/2019 21:50

The clubhouse looks great! Definitely a contender!

I also used to love alma de Cuba - not sure if it still exists though!

Ilikesweetpeas · 30/10/2019 21:54

I love Fazanders!

Jacksback · 30/10/2019 22:14

Btw r u coming in on train ?
Check services r running on your date as trains are due to go off on some weekends before Xmas
( sorry )
Forgot about alma it’s very dramatic , had lovely sun lunch there once

hidinginthenightgarden · 30/10/2019 22:17

Death row diner is a good conversation starter. I haven’t eaten there myself though.

Lj8893 · 30/10/2019 22:20

We will train or drive, we only live the other side of the water.

Another vote for Mowgli.

They do a children menu too.

Jacksback · 30/10/2019 22:29

Gusto at the dock Italian
Nice deccies child friendly
Quite lively tho not a quiet place

Ciwirocks · 30/10/2019 22:37

Gospel brunch at alma de Cuba is something different and fun.
Baltic market is good as well for variety of street foods and desserts plus it’s close to the peaky blinders bar and the Irish bar punch tarmeys is good as well. Kids ok in the market and bars in the day but at night I probably wouldn’t because it can get quite rowdy.
Camp and furnace do a lovely roast and is somewhere a bit different too.
The Munro is a traditional gastro pub but also does a lovely Sunday dinner.
Matou is Asian type food but lovely views of the 3 graces and the river on the terrace.

Ciwirocks · 30/10/2019 22:43

Oh and there is saporro as well where they cook the food in front of you, that is loads of fun and the chefs are great with kids and adults putting on a real little show
