Trying to get organized early this year for you know what... happens every year on the 25th of the last month. Wink

I asked my sis what she would like......
And I got the suggestion that I buy an emergency bag and contents for a hospital grab and go scenario.

I get a list of what it needs to contain.

Apparently, her and her friend had been talking about the practicalities of living alone, so best to be prepared.

I get that. But its hardly a nice gift is it?
Or am I not 'getting it'? Confused

Love this thread! I have a chronic illness which can flare up and require emergency admission - I really need to prepare a bag too, and this thread has some fab ideas!

I will be making sure mine has my favourite essential oil sleep blend from tisserand, I love it and always helps me sleep! Also, nail file, flannel, deodorant, wet wipes, hair brush, puzzle book, pen, sleep mask, slippers, moisturiser, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste and toothbrush.

Along with a change of clothes, this covers all the basic needs I think!

Oh, and obviously spare knockers...

noodlezoodle · 31/10/2019 01:00

What a lovely thread! I live in earthquake country so I'm absolutely stealing some of these ideas for my earthquake kit Grin

@Redshoesandtheblues just wrote a long post and lost it.

Gist is.
Usual clothes slippers etc.
Does DSis gave false teeth or contacts?
If so containers and cleaners for them .
Shampoo, conditioner, hand cream make sure right ones I am allergic to many.
Phone charger. I have a old kindle with my favourite books already downloaded on it. I keep that in mine now.
Ear plugs. Couldn't sleep in hospital.

I have to use a walking stick. For got to ask DIL to bring mine in and was stuck in chair next day as wonderful nurses couldn't get me a frame or for love nor money. Now have a fold up in my bag.
Towels and wash cloth.
Plenty if clean underwear.
Sleep bra. I have a very large bust and somehow felt very vulnerable with boobs unfettered in public. It us just a couple if crop top sort. But feels better.
Lots of warm socks.
Phone numbers and emergency numbers for family in a address book in my bag. Although I had them on my phone. My phone died ( that was another story) so having numbers physically writted down is a comfort.

I have been in quite often since ( I have a disability that now means I am in hospital a lot.

But I think the reason I want it most. Is fo that DH or most likely DDIL dosnt have yo ho searching through my things looking for everything. Not that i mind that as in DDIL and i have the sort if relationship that that would be a problem. But that she dosnt have to now. Makes it easier for both if us.

Shosha1 · 31/10/2019 07:13

Oh and a copy of her prescriptions so hospital know straight away what she takes and how much

Redshoesandtheblues · 31/10/2019 08:54

Thanks everyone for your great input. Most of which, I would never have thought of.

My heart goes out to those who can rhyme a comprehensive list off without a pause! Flowers

I am now understanding why she didn't want to do it herself. Its like a little bit of love packed into everything in that bag, isnt it?

Ironically after sending my top 10 yesterday I ended up in hospital. Which reminded me of something a PP has said: the big pashmina - multi purpose blanket, scarf, towel, cuddly toy, blindfold when the lights are too bright... easily washable and pretty!

Redshoesandtheblues · 31/10/2019 08:58

She'll know I've picked everything and thought about her.

You've helped me see the present in a new light.

Shit! Pumpkin that's awful.
Are you ok?
Anything you need, if Im nearby?

Pumpkinpie66 · 31/10/2019 09:16

Thanks @Redshoesandtheblues but I'm ok. My DH is used to these situations and I am all kitted out!

helpfulperson · 31/10/2019 09:17

With mine i also have a list of things i need as well as what is in my bag. This means if someone else gets it for me they know what to collect. So it says kindle from bedside table, medication from bathroom, etc

sueelleker · 31/10/2019 09:25

Superdrug sell holiday sized toiletries. And you can get non-slip shower shoes, which might be more practical than flip-flops.

ChicCauldron · 31/10/2019 10:36

Yes, I think you're right and the thought that someone else has provided it all really helps. When I did one of my dashes-with-items for my mum, I think she was most touched by a small pot of her usual face cream and the nice toiletries. It really is the little things in life that matter sometimes.

BlackeyedGruesome · 31/10/2019 10:53

eyemask. block out the lights.

JohnCRaven · 31/10/2019 13:06

Eye mask
Ear plug
Deodorant
Tooth brush
Tooth paste
Johnson's facial cleansing wipes
Knickers
Nightie (hospitals are so HOT)
Long phone charger cable (I ordered this 3 pack and they're excellent and you'll have 2 spare for yourself! Gritin USB C Cable,... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CJJHVKX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)&tag=mumsnetforu03-21
Snacks
Bottle of squash/cordial to liven up plain water
Tea/coffee/mini milk cartons

Redshoesandtheblues · 05/11/2019 07:28

Just to update you, I've got most things on list other than toiletries and cordial.
I hope!!
Waiting for next few things to arrive and then will do check list.

Thanks again, everyone. It's coming together......Smile

Though she sent message the other day, saying, I hope you didn't think the whole bag of stuff, just a contribution to it!

Erm....bit late for that caveat, dear sis, just a tad!!

OP posts:
Redshoesandtheblues · 05/11/2019 07:40

How are you @Pumpkinpie66 ?

OP posts:
starfishmummy · 05/11/2019 07:56

Travel Minis of her favourite toileteries - facial wash, mosturiser, hand cream are what Id like and perhaps a small shower gel. Toothbrush, mini toothpaste, deodorant. Im assuming that if she was in for a while then someone could replenish.

verticality · 05/11/2019 08:00

I love the way you've taken this thread OP. You sound like a fantastic sister.

Redshoesandtheblues · 05/11/2019 08:02

This is why I'm holding back on toiletries. I have no idea what she uses.
If i can't work it into conversation, I'll play safe with sensitive skin stuff.

OP posts:
Redshoesandtheblues · 05/11/2019 08:03

That's a nice thing to say.
I hope I am.
She's tested me enough! Grin

Thank you so much for this thread .
I am packing hospital bag for me but more complicated as I live where my treatment is not available so will be a long way away from home and no visitors to bring anything I forget for the first week .
I have added flannels and pashmina . Sleep spray and lip balm . Will get a little fan .
Boom !
Again thank you !
All packed into an Orla Kiely Tesco bag . I might sew a zip in the top .
Packing cubes I have and a brilliant idea .

Redshoesandtheblues · 05/11/2019 10:22

I'm really happy that something I was so Hmm about, has opened up ideas for everyone.

Seems it was it was just me not 'getting it'. But i do now.
