Does your school also do this?

Got the info sheet for a trip to an animal sanctuary in 3 weeks. They are due back an hour before school usually finishes. Please note the earlier end to the school day!
they don't want muddy shoes in the school

No they don’t.

TheJoxter · 30/10/2019 09:34

Nope, not at our school. Sometimes if it’s an in-school or local thing that parents are invited to then we have the option of taking them home early but they will take any remaining kids back to the school til pick up/after school club time

Aragog · 30/10/2019 09:34

No. If our trips finish before the end of school we take them back into school, into class. Children who's parent/carer has volunteered and been with us we allow to leave early with their parent.

Grumpbum123 · 30/10/2019 09:38

No they take wellies in a named bag and change when they get back to school

FrenchJunebug · 30/10/2019 10:10

not in our school either. If the trip finishes early they go back to class until the normal time for the end of the school day.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/10/2019 10:10

Never had a day finish early for a trip.
Sometimes late back which would mean no school buses, or school buses delayed because of a late running trip.

PurpleDaisies · 30/10/2019 10:11

No. If we get back early, we normally look at the trip photos or do something related until home time.

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2019 10:12

Never! And they can't enforce it either.

Just send clean shoes. When ds used to go on muddy trips they took shoes in carrier back as coach company would make them change before getting back on. Bags of wellies in carrier bags left outside classroom on playground!

Spied · 30/10/2019 10:14

No. We have choice if they are going to be bk early to pick them up or if it's not possible they go in class till usual pick-up time

MondeoFan · 30/10/2019 10:21

No and never have

Beveren · 30/10/2019 10:28

No. Point out that by law you have to ensure your child receives full time education and say that you propose to comply with it.

HeadBrickWall · 30/10/2019 10:30

It specifically says the children will be released from school to go home.

It's not a problem for me as it's not one of my work days but I'll probably have to take in DD's best friend as she's in after school club that day, which doesn't start until when school is supposed to finish.

PotteringAlong · 30/10/2019 10:32

No, school will have to keep dd’s best friend until the end of the day

M0nkeybutler · 30/10/2019 10:33

They absolutely can not enforce this. If parents want to, they can pick their children up early. However, if parents are unable to pick their children up early by law the school cannot insist. Send your child in with clean shoes and have them picked up at the normal time.

Ravenrob · 30/10/2019 10:34

Nope. Never heard of that before.

LemonRedwood · 30/10/2019 10:38

They are massively taking the piss. They can't "release" the children before the end of the school day. What age are the children? If primary and no one is there to pick up they can't just send them home!

youngestisapsycho · 30/10/2019 10:38

They can tell you that you can pick your kids up an hour earlier... but they cant enforce it. If you can't get there till school closing time then the kids will be kept somewhere... they won't just let them leave the school on their own.

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2019 10:50

They can release them an hour early.

They can't insist you pick them up then.

itsgettingweird · 30/10/2019 10:51

Sorry I mean release as in let them go if arrangements aren't in place. They can't enforce them going home!

Lhastingsmua · 30/10/2019 10:51

Maybe it’s contingency time? I wouldn’t be surprised if there was delays on the way back.

Pinkflipflop85 · 30/10/2019 11:00

They can't make them go home as they have a duty of care until the end of the school day. Our school have let parents take the children if it is a slightly earlier finish. However they aren't forced to, and children who aren't collected remain in school.

PotteringAlong · 30/10/2019 12:02

No, school will have to keep dd’s best friend until the end of the day
