Selling an eBay account

SkySmiler · 29/10/2019 08:10

I've been offered £300 for my eBay account... Longtime member 100% positive feedback, I'm sorely tempted as so skint, has anyone any experience of this....?

That’s fraud, surely?

greypetex · 29/10/2019 08:19

Ask eBay what they think?

PennyGold · 29/10/2019 08:38

It might be a scam.. they "sell" something, receive payment and then never send it. They then disappear.. who do you think Ebay will come come looking for?
I'd be careful, sounds a little dodgy.

I think it can only be done as part of a business sale and even then eBay can say no if they have any concerns.

eBay’s stance on the matter.

Bluetac19 · 29/10/2019 10:00

Surely this rings alarm bells for any sensible person.

tectonicplates · 29/10/2019 10:01

Very dodgy. Even if they didn't scam you, they'd use it to scam others, i.e. sell dodgy stuff and use your carefully built up feedback to make themselves look trustworthy.

If you're really skint, have a more thorough look around your home and find some more items to sell in the usual way.

tectonicplates · 29/10/2019 10:04

Also it doesn't make financial sense for you in the long run. If you have enough items to sell then you could potentially make more than £300 over the next year or so, depending on what you're selling. Think of the benefits your Ebay account brings you in the long run.

MegaClutterSlut · 29/10/2019 10:10

You'd be part of the scam op and it will back fire on your arse so don't do it!

JigsawsAreInPieces · 29/10/2019 11:58

I'm pretty sure that eBay accounts can't be sold or transferred - as pp said what happens if they sell something dodgy and it's all in your name?

Steer well clear.

dontgobaconmyheart · 29/10/2019 13:42

What circumstances OP? Someone you know? Why do they want it, 300 is hardly earth shattering. I wouldn't tbh, it's all registered to you when you signed the T&C's at signup so I assume you'd still be culpable as registered owner if they used it fraudulently not to mention that it seems potentially fraudulent in and of itself.

I imagine if you did 'sell' it ebay would shut the account down or suspend it anyway so I certainly wouldn't spend the money if you took it as you'd likely have to refund it. At the same time you effectively loan the right to use your account on ebay via the payment of fees, you don't own the rights to the account, if it's not a registered company you have very little to stand on.

Not worth it IMO OP! If you're desperate for cash why could you not utilise your healthy ebay account to make money?

SkySmiler · 31/10/2019 13:18

Yes of course it's raised alarm bells blutac, hence asking advice....!

Alas nowt to sell, and find eBay ballache anyway! Built up my feedback as a good buyer...

Young lad, don't know him, sells autographs, footballers, wrestlers, memorabilia etc...

I've swerved it anyway...

Probably selling fakes and probably not who he claims or looks to be either.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
