Dd just swallowed a ring

Dd (10) had just swallowed this ring. I'm assuming that as she's not choked on it and had completely swallowed it we just wait until nature takes its course??? She says she was just throwing it in the air and it accidentally sent in her mouth and she swallowed it. Numpty.

Yep. My cousin ate my aunties engagement ring when she was 3. That was probably the worst treasure hunt ever.

Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 19:41

I think that we should just get her a new one. DP thinks we should hunt for it. If he wants to he's welcome to!

No hunting for the ring and no replacements either. No way was this an accident!

SummerHouse · 28/10/2019 19:43

I think with a coin there's a risk of choking but can't see the same risk with a ring.

Worst treasure hunt ever GrinGrinGrin

LifeInPlasticIsFantastic · 28/10/2019 19:43

My sister did the same thing when she was around 7.

It was a family heirloom ring and poor mum had to route through her poo until it came out Grin every time my sister went to the loo mum followed her in with a tub and some disposable gloves.

I still remember my sisters face as she confessed that she’s swallowed it!

How do you swallow a ring accidentally? Sounds like a YouTube dare 🤔

Raphael34 · 28/10/2019 19:44

If you phoned the nhs for advice I think you’ll be told that it’s likely to pass with no problems, but you really should hunt for it to ensure it’s passed through

Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 19:46

Of course it wasn't accidental! She'll have had it in her mouth and then swallowed it. It was a present from her granny, who would be pretty angry about it, do is prefer her not to know. Dd was hysterical, she thought she'd have to go to hospital and get it cut out.... Punishment enough.

OP posts:
Wallywobbles · 28/10/2019 19:49

She can troll through her own poo to find it. That'll be a lesson learnt.

Moneyplants · 28/10/2019 19:52

Dd swallowed my wedding ring when she was wee. The GP said it should be OK as it is gold so not poisonous and smooth. I did have to hunt for it and then soaked it in bleach for a week.

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 28/10/2019 19:58

You’ll need to hunt for it to make sure it has exited. If it doesn’t she’ll need to go and get checked out. It’s not about Granny/Daddy getting cross

Tub & rubber gloves. It’s only poo - you’ll have surely changed plenty of shitty nappies in your time?!

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 28/10/2019 20:00

Tell her she’s very lucky it didn’t have a sharp stone in it and that if she gets ANY pain she needs to tell an adult ASAP

Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 20:03

Of course I've changed nappies, but that hasn't involved hunting through them...

My daughter was 5 when she swallowed a ring...about three weeks after she had swallowed a 20p Hmm. On both occasions we were advised by the 111 to go to A&E. They use a metal detector to check it is in the stomach rather than the oesophagus. On both occasions we were advised NOT to sift through the poo as apparently that makes people panic that it's stuck somewhere. Thankfully the ring wasn't an airloom and I know my daughter would have been anxious waiting for it to pass, so we just told her it would dissolve in all the gravy she consumed Grin

MissisBee · 28/10/2019 20:10

There was a piece of research where some paediatricians swallows Lego heads then searched their poo for them. Some of them took weeks to make their exit. Outcome - don't go searching poo unless you specifically want the object back. Get seen only if abdominal pain or vomiting

greypetex · 28/10/2019 20:13

I think that we should just get her a new one.

Why?

It's going to come out eventually, maybe she can just look for it

Justgivemesomepeace · 28/10/2019 20:14

Ds swallowed a coin. A&E xrayed him as they like to check it's gone down the right hole, and landed in the stomach, rather than the other way headed for the lungs. They also said not to go back if we don't find it in the poo, as it always works it's way out eventually.

x2boys · 28/10/2019 20:16

My son swallowed a penny when he was 3 we phoned NHS direct who said he needed to go to A&E to check it hadent lodged somewhere they said he needed an X-ray ,which was fun as it was at night and I was about 8 and half months pregnant bit of a waste of time imo but maybe you could phone them? ( whatever they are called now) I

Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 20:27

She's not wheezy at all, not coughing, days she feels that is swallowed - could it still have gone down the wrong way??

OP posts:
alwayscauseastir · 28/10/2019 20:31

@Ffsnosexallowed or it could be lodged, as it's hollow she would breathe fine but it still be stuck. Advice would be a&e from the 111 but obviously it's up to you.

Bunnybigears · 28/10/2019 20:34

Personally I would go to A&E or any urgent care place you have it may not be sharp put does have some sticky out bits. They always check it has gone past the oesophagus as if it stays there it can cause all sorts of problems.

Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 20:45

Wouldn't it feel stuck if it hasn't gone past her oesophagus?

OP posts:
Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 23:38

Called 111. They said because it was silver to take her straight to a&e, that she needed to be seen urgently. Took her straight there. Waste of time - ours and drs. Used a metal detector, past her oesophagus. Said that logic should have told 111 that as she'd had an apple and had a drink it wasn't stuck anywhere. Did give us a supply of gloves though... Just home.

OP posts:
Ffsnosexallowed · 28/10/2019 23:38

Oh - and no relevance to it being silver...

My mum got an old sieve and popped poo in there and ran warm water over the sieve till the poo disintegrated away.

If you don't fancy a rummage.

wasnt me but my sister, I'm not that stupid
