I’m going to get sick aren’t I?

DD (8 months) had a sick bug over the weekend. DH is now being sick.

I’m going to get it aren’t I? I can’t really be ill if I’ve got DD to look after!

I’ve got DH to bleach the toilet whenever he’s done and wipe down the surfaces in the bathroom.

I’ve got antibacterial gel which I keep putting on my hands but it’s going to happen isn’t it?

I’m also nearly 10 weeks pregnant....

Not necessarily!

If you do, you'll cope, I've been there with noro, the whole family had it at the same time, horrendous, but you get through it.

Fingers crossed for you.

Amigoingto · 28/10/2019 04:06

Thanks! Just makes me particularly anxious as we only have one loo!

Sick - One toilet = Use a bucket?

Northernsoullover · 28/10/2019 04:39

Just wash your hands and dry in a paper towel. Anti bacterial won't guard against a virus. Fwiw I have two children and have cleaned up more barf than I ever would have liked to. I only got sick once.

madasamarchhare · 28/10/2019 07:07

Keep washing your hands! As much as you can.

LucheroTena · 28/10/2019 07:14

There is a good chance you won’t get it. I’ve never caught one but have dealt with more than I could ever remember (my own family and my patients). Lots of hand washing for all of you. Disinfect loo handles, door handles, sinks, taps, the loo after every use. Don’t let DH prepare food.

StealthPussy · 28/10/2019 07:20

You might get it but not necessarily. Lots of occasions in this house where one or 2 of us had sickness but and one or two escaped it. Use rubber gloves when cleaning. Wash hands. Don’t share towels/soap/cups with the ill. Fingers crossed.

whatwouldkatyactuallydonext · 28/10/2019 07:25

Anti bac wipes won't work unless you get the Clinell ones.
Bleach everything!

Andonandonan · 28/10/2019 07:55

You might but you also might not. All you can do is maintain really good hygiene practices & keep it up for at least 48 hours after the last person has been unwell.

Antibacterial gel doesn’t work for sickness bugs - they’re viruses. Soap & hot water do work though, so wash your hands regularly, especially before eating.

Keep dh quarantined as much as possible until he is definitely better.

Good luck!

I remember one Christmas...

Dd chucked up at 4.00 am. I was sick at 7.00 am, dh was sick at 10.00am, and ds was sick at 3.00 pm. Worse Boxing Day ever! 😭

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/10/2019 08:21

DH remembers less than fondly a short camping break he took our then 3 and 6 year old boys on. Came home a day early as ds2 was a mount Vesuvius of vomit.
All I ever did was clean up one rather minging potty and I was struck down and boy did I have it bad.
Ds1 was on for a while and then had a rather spectacular explosion at school, but was fine thereafter.
DH didn't get it. He had to clean vomit and... other stuff off a sleeping bag, a camp bed, part of the tent and a car seat. He also picked through the lovely bag of soiled clothing ds1's school sent home.
He said he "felt a bit off" for a few days.
My mum came to help out as I was very ill and she didn't catch it.
You might be ok. Probably best to have extra stocks of dioralyte and immodium on hand though.

SunshineP · 28/10/2019 08:22

Wash your hands. Don’t touch your face, mouth or nose.
Just wash your hands x 100000

Amigoingto · 28/10/2019 08:46

Ah I didn’t realise about the hand gel not being effective against viruses 🤦‍♀️ I was using it all day yesterday and Saturday when DD was sick.

DH is locked away upstairs although I need to nuke that bathroom at some point today.

I’m feeling hungry atm but otherwise I’m OK.

What most people don't realise is that vomit bugs are airborne. You need to keep window in bathroom open and door closed. When you vomit particles are projected in the air. Hold your breath when near and to be honest if you can smell it you are likely to catch it.

OldEvilOwl · 28/10/2019 09:20

Not necessarily. I've been fine a few times when the kids have been really ill and one even slept in my bed.

hotdogwoof · 28/10/2019 12:21

Buy anti viral soap, have separate towels for everyone and wash your hands constantly.

SquirellTamer · 28/10/2019 12:23

My youngest caught a sickness and diarrhoea bug from her cousin 2 weeks ago. She was really unwell but no one else in the family caught it. You might be ok.

SoyDora · 28/10/2019 12:27

Hopefully not. But you’ll survive if you do!
When DC3 was 3 months old DH went away for 2 nights, leaving me with the baby plus my 5 and 4 year olds. Night 1, I came down with norovirus. On my own, breastfeeding a baby every 2 hours through the night while vomiting constantly was a parenting low! But we survived! Luckily a friend took the DD’s to school for me in the morning.

troppibambini · 28/10/2019 12:29

I've got four kids and over the last few days two have come down with a d and v bug.
No one else has had it (touch wood!)

SoyDora · 28/10/2019 12:29

Oh and no one else caught it, amazingly!

Amigoingto · 28/10/2019 18:13

Thanks all.

DH is feeling better so he’s downstairs watching DD. Turns out DD actually has tonsillitis so she must have had that and a sickness bug on top Sad

I’m just taking a bath as I’ve started feeling quite crampy and gassy (TMI sorry!)

I hope I’m not getting it but I think I’ve done pretty well to have gotten this far without it...

LucheroTena · 28/10/2019 18:16

It’s weird how some get it and some don’t. When DD was a baby she threw up one day. My mum and cousin were both there and came down with it. DH came down. I looked after her throughout, did all the bathroom cleanups, got thrown up over my face! And yet didn’t get it. Nor did I catch any of the sickness bugs she brought home over the years, or from all the patients at work who had it.

M0nkeybutler · 03/11/2019 22:34

OP did you avoid it?

Amigoingto · 04/11/2019 07:05

I didn’t get it Grin

DH ended up with a full blown cold a couple of days after which I also didn’t get.
