Body odour x2

  1. My DS(7) sweats a lot, and his armpits smell quite bad. Is this normal?! I thought this would star much later.
If it is normal - is there anything he can use at that age? I would have thought it is not good to use deodorant so young

  2. I'm 48 and perimenopausal. I fucking stink. I have always had strong BO, but this is ridiculous. Anyone else? what do you do?

Thanks

You can get treatments now for excessive sweating, I would try speaking to someone about it and get some treatment personally. Nothing worse than growing up being the smelly kid (sorry to be blunt) get him some dove deodorant and lynx to keep in his school bag. X

Driclor works very well.

Wallywobbles · 28/10/2019 06:02

Both my DDs got BO around 7. We tried various kind deodorants but ended up with sure sticks.

Try Mitchum.

redchocolatebutton · 28/10/2019 06:11

how do you wash your clothes?
try using (bio) powder and warmer washes (40 and warmer).

how do you, your dc wash?
what soap do you use?
bar soap seems much better at getting rid of bo. and of course daily shower/bath for dc and supervise that he is actually using soap.

LakeFlyPie · 28/10/2019 06:12

DS had a burst of stinkiness which has settled now, presume it was a hormonal thing (he was 10 so not as young as your DS). A tutorial in proper pit washing with bar soap (rather than shower gel) and using a deodorant helped.

FrancesFlute · 28/10/2019 06:13

Bar soap is great. Try both of you with that. I would probably take your DS to GP.

muddledmidget · 28/10/2019 06:21

If he is showering properly and regularly, it is more likely there is ingrained BO in his clothes that smells as the clothes warm up during wearing. Using a sports wash like Halo (from sainsburys or amazon) will mean his clothes no longer smell and should help

AntCrawley · 28/10/2019 06:22

Its fine some people get puberty earlier. Wash with Dittol soap on armpits for both. Odaban spray sold on amazon is very good for your use.
For your son use something aluminum free unscented and for sensitive skin. Goes without sayibg daily one or two showers/baths and clean clothes each wear.

AntCrawley · 28/10/2019 06:23

Also if your diet has a lot of onion garlic and spices you will sweat them out.

TapDanceJazzHands · 28/10/2019 06:23

Bar soap instead of shower gel.

Wash all your tops in Halo sports wash. Then continue with biological powder. Also look at avoiding fabric softener as this coats the fabric and leaves a residue which can trap the sweat smells (use white vinegar instead which works really well- can buy in bulk online cheaply).

Use a roll on deodorant.

You could try a natural deodorant for your son with the above advice.

My ds was 6 when he started to get BO. I thought that was way too young (I didn't need deodorant until I was about 12). Apparently, BO at 6 is not abnormal according to the GP. We bought some natural deodorant from a health food shop. It took a bit of getting used to. At aged 9, he's moved on to aluminium free Sure stick.

BammBamm · 28/10/2019 07:56

I would recommend pitrok. I moved to the pump spray when I was breastfeeding but have just bought the crystal and honestly it's great. It has to be used on clean skin but I used to struggle with BO (I'd smell in the afternoon after showering and putting deo on in the morning) but I've had nothing since using it. It's natural so no worries about using it on a 6 year old.
I would recommend the crystal over the pump as the pump spray can leak.

Ditch the shower gel - use soap
And Mitchum deodorant
changed my life! thanks MN 😉

tectonicplates · 28/10/2019 11:04

Another vote here for soap instead of shower gel. It really makes a difference.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 28/10/2019 11:18

If you think it's early puberty then you should take him to a GP as seven is far too young:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/early-or-delayed-puberty/

And don't get sodding Lynx whatever you do! Go for something neutral or clean-smelling so we can all breathe Grin

DisplayPurposesOnly · 28/10/2019 11:21

Its fine some people get puberty earlier.

Sometimes it's too early though as per the NHS link I've just posted.
