If a person fails to change both their driving license and car insurance to new address I’m assuming they are not insured etc .. and they’ve had an accident since moving and not changing address, also driving license due to expire soon ... What would happen if they were caught ? I did google but bit vague

Your car insurance is invalid. Why don’t you just change the address on your insurance as if you have a accident you could be charged with driving without valid insurance etc

Our doesn't always invalidate your insurance if you're in an accident. I was ran into on a roundabout 2 years ago in dps car, he hadn't informed insurance of address change (we'd moved in together a month previously) so they did was put him through to the admin team who changed the details, then put him back through to claims. There were admin and increase charges due to the detail change.

However if the police stop you, I think you can be charged with invalid insurance.

Thanks , this individual hasn’t changed it for over 2.5 months

You can be fined up to £1000 for not changing your address on your driving license. Also if you get caught by the police and have to show your driving license at the local station within a week, they will check your license is the ‘current address’ you’ve given. The only way to get a new license within a week is to go to Swansea and get it done within an hour (speaks from bitter experience thanks DH!).

If you haven't told your insurer about your new address, it can be invalid and it is quite easy for insurers to find out, given that nearly all of us can be constantly tracked due to our smartphones.

I witnessed an accident that turned out to be a real can of worms opener because one party had lied to his insurance company about both his address and occupation - I found out because I was interviewed at length three times during the following months due to the dispute between the insurance companies.

He had told his insurance company he lived at his grandmother's address in a remote rural area, when he really lived in the suburbs of a large northern city that had a reputation for high insurance costs due to car theft and poor driving skills.
