Best way to make money when you can’t get a job

One thing I DEFINITELY do NOT want to do is any kind of selling thing (is it mlms?) well younique etc ....

So, what are my options. Cannot find any kind of part time job. Do I start something myself ASAP (self employed something.....cleaner ?) whilst looking all the time for something?
Is there something I’ve not thought of ?

Yes that’s fine then :) I was worried that you weren’t registered from your last message

shinynewapple · 27/10/2019 18:14

What hours are you available to work outside the house?

ragged · 27/10/2019 18:20

I'm getting about £100/yr from filling in market research surveys. Yougov, Onepoll, other sites.

SummerintoAutumn · 27/10/2019 18:21

My friend set up an ironing business from home which expanded into cleaning as well.
She is so busy now she has to turn down new customers.

EmploymentIssues · 27/10/2019 18:49

I could work evenings from 730 (once dh home)
Weekends anytime

Ironing could be a good one as could do that at home

Once my youngest qualifies for some childcare I could do weekday mornings but that is about a year away

If you can do evenings and weekends how about bar, cafe, restaurant work? Retail?

EmploymentIssues · 27/10/2019 19:02

I have been looking and there is nothing locally but I’m going to keep looking as hopefully with the run up to Xmas that might change

If matched betting is guaranteed profits then why don’t people start off with a £1000 float??

Is it legal or in a grey area?

Are earnings taxable?

homeworkery · 27/10/2019 19:19

Some people do start with £1000 or more but op hasn't got that much to start with. It's legal (the bookies don't like it of course) and it's not taxable

VerbenaGirl · 27/10/2019 19:27

Would becoming a childminder be an option?

PurplePuffinPicker · 27/10/2019 20:32

Bofster, it doesn't matter how much you start with. The amount of profit depends on what offers are available that week from the bookies. It is easier with a larger float but you don't need it. It's not like getting a percentage of an investment.

OP, matched betting can be started with a small amount but if you do consider it, read up about it carefully first as it feels complicated when you start. But if you have a risk-taking streak or like a flutter, don't do it. It's easy to lapse into actual gambling if you're so inclined. I am not at all, so it works fine for me.

Ironing sounds like a good option and could grow into a good business.

PurplePuffinPicker · 27/10/2019 20:34

Oh and Bofster - tax free. The government don't count it as earnings. And it's completely legal. The bookies don't like it much, but I have no qualms about exploiting the exploiters.

Definitely look at the £10 a day thread. I'm a lunchtime supervisor at my kids school and also do lots of other stuff from home here-

Would you be able to do care work? There are often vacancies for night staff in care homes. Perhaps you would be able to get a weekend/ night shift role. Obviously wouldn't work during the week as you wouldn't get chance to sleep yourself .

I have sometimes see estate agents advertising for reception staff Saturday/ Sunday; I think the difficulty with a lot of part time roles in shops is they want flexibility but you may be able to get a week end shift; bar work too.

I understand there isn't anything available at present but other posters have offered useful links regarding making money from home.

stimpyco · 05/11/2019 11:44

Agreed match betting is good but the offers run out to fast, you can easily make a few hundred but that is the limit. I have been using match deposit bonuses and doing quite well.

So you deposit say £20 the casino will match it 100% which equals £40 and most of them throw in a few free spins.

I found most of the offers on these sites

matchdeposit.com/
askgamblers.com/
oddschecker.com/

I found the key is to cash out while you are around 50% up and i seem to win more at night time than in the day time.

WelcomeToGilead · 05/11/2019 15:04

I want to try matched betting so much but don't you need a couple of grand to make a killing?

MidnightMystery · 05/11/2019 15:08

Go self employed, be your own boss.

Find something you are good at for example if you are crafty then make and sell,
-Soap
-Christmas decor
-picture frames
Just afew ideas I've seen recently.

Also other things like self employed cleaning, dog walking.

Buying and selling.

Online surveys I personally haven't tried that myself just an idea for pocket money.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/11/2019 15:10

My teenage DDs and their friends were recently talking about a website that buys photos of your feet for clientele with a certain fetish Hmm

Cinderellasma · 05/11/2019 15:22

Christmas vacancies all appearing now. Places like Boots that stock over night might be an option?
Otherwise, if you can yourself some good cleaning references /police check, then I think you might be on to a winner. Not sure how many homes require night or evening cleaners, but our last lady was so invaluable that she used bring her kids with her during school hols etc. We were delighted. A reliable cleaner who comes recommended is so hard to find.
Ironing.. Also excellent idea.
Matched betting I cannot fathom. Seems too good to be true.
Good luck. I hope whatever you go for you thrive!

WhoKnewBeefStew · 05/11/2019 15:32

Lots of cleaning agencies need people. You kind of work for yourself with a little less money or hassle than if you did it all yourself.

Dog/pet sitting or walking

WhoKnewBeefStew · 05/11/2019 15:33

Lots of retail shops, such as Dorothy Perkins do 4 hr shifts etc

Christmas should be a good opening for you. M&S almost always need people

lastqueenofscotland · 05/11/2019 15:34

If you’re free evenings and weekends pub work is a doddle and quite fun

NorthernGravy · 05/11/2019 15:39

The thing with matched betting is you have to have the cash in the first place to bet with.

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 05/11/2019 17:37

I didn't like matched betting, far too stressful!

Also it felt a bit shady even though I know it's legal.
