Would this put you off a property?

The garden is quite overlooked

There’s a row of houses on a hill above it and for the people living there to get to their house they have to walk along a path that looks directly down into said garden.

Lovely huge window in the kitchen ... but again people walking by have a direct view of looking at you.

There’s not many houses on the hill ( maybe 8 or 10) and it’s a very private path and you wouldn’t use it unless you were going to one of the houses on the hill.

But still would this bother you?

As in, is it close enough for someone to say hello to you if you're in the garden?

CherryPlum · 27/10/2019 17:06

It really really wouldn't bother me, at all. I am an introvert, and like to keep to myself. But I bet anyone who could see in wouldn't stare - they'd catch a glimpse and move on, and I'd ignore them. I'm really too boring for anyone to stare at me 😂

Also, houses which aren't overlooked get burgled more than those which are overlooked. Thieves steer clear of a house when there is a chance they could be seen - being overlooked has it's plus sides.

Different people look for different things in houses so not sure there's a right one to be got at. City dwellers will likely have a very different kind of response to this question than people who are used to living in small communities!

Most important factor here probably isn't the path but the community and whether it is kind and friendly or judgemental and difficult!

Yes, overlooked, dark garden and window would put me off.

It would put me off if I was looking for my 'forever' house, as detatched with private gardens is the top of my checklist. As a foot on the property ladder I'd be less bothered. Our current back garden is overlooked by several neighbours, but the area is pretty decent and we have a good sized house and garden for a FTB. If I loved the house in your situation I would buy and keep the blinds half closed if I felt like people were looking in.
