How do I stop it?! I've looked at some YouTube videos but the working parts are different 🤷‍♀️

I twiddle the twisty thing until the water stops helpful

Fozzleyplum · 27/10/2019 09:03

I'm no expert, but I think this is caused by the ballcock not lifting to the full extent. You can try lifting it and see if the water flow stops. That might fix it if it was just a bit stuck.

ChipInTheSugar · 27/10/2019 09:07

Which twiddly bit?

I have pushed and pulled various bits. Ran my finger nail round the circle bit bottom left to clear some gunk ...

That's what I've cleared gunk from

Top of pic, on the left hand side - top of that pipe that is attaching the pipe to the almost bendy horizontal piece - does that screw up and down?

OneTerrificMouse · 27/10/2019 09:10

just above your arrow?

PivotPivotPivottt · 27/10/2019 09:11

Mine is doing this too driving me insane. It stops when I lift the cistern lid though Confused

ChipInTheSugar · 27/10/2019 09:12

I've have a look - one sec.

I've checked the other toilet and the water level is halfway up the black float thing. So I need to figure out how to move that ...

Mine does this when there is too much scale for the float to rise freely. Do you live in a hard water area? I give it all a scrub and it works.

ChipInTheSugar · 27/10/2019 09:18

I can't just switch this one off unfortunately.

I've twiddled the spirally stick thing Grinand raised the black unit but it's still filling Confused

If it's a constant trickle you've probably got a leaky float valve - v easy (and v satisfying!) to replace with the help of youtube

NightsOfCabiria · 27/10/2019 09:20

It normally means that the seals have gone (worn away). Is it old? (6-10 years?)

OneTerrificMouse · 27/10/2019 09:21

If you lift it as far as it will go, does it stop filling at any point? Or is that as far as it will go?

If it does, then there has got to be a problem with the thingy bob that closes off the water which that bendy horizontal whatcham'callit is attached to.

ProperVexed · 27/10/2019 09:23

There's a chap regularly on the property threads @PigletJohn. He is a guru on toilets and all things plumbing!

ChipInTheSugar · 27/10/2019 09:27

I think OneTerrificMouse is PigletJohn in disguise ... GrinGrin

We had this problem. We called the plumber out and he said the seal had perished, it's quite common on loos with the push button flush apparently.

ProperVexed · 27/10/2019 09:46

Chip Could be! Perhaps he has changed animal!

Deathraystare · 27/10/2019 09:57

If the 'flusher' is a push down thingy like my friend's then just push down again and it should stop (I mean the metal button you push to flush). If a handle then that won't work!

ChipInTheSugar · 27/10/2019 11:17

I've tried pushing everything DeathRay - it just keeps trickling.

I'll put a call in tomorrow for a plumber ...

Lol. No i have just lived in a LOT of shared houses/rented houses in my time. And seen more toilet tanks than I cared to.

ChipInTheSugar · 27/10/2019 12:09

Ah! It was the plumbing vernacular that made me wonder Wink
