Diwali party

DD has been invited to a friend's Diwali party. The invite specified that presents weren't necessary.
Would it be a huge faux pas to take a small gift for her friend just as a thank you for having her?

How old is DD? Is the party at her friend's home or at the temple?

If it's at home she could maybe take a scented candle for the friend's mum and / or a packet of glow sticks to share with other children.

DD is 7. Party is at their house.
Diwali card and something to represent 'light' might be the way to go.
Although was thinking more thank you present than specifically Diwali present.
