I feel so unwell and so sore and so unhappy. Hate going through this every month. As soon as I came on today I just thought here we go Sad a long night ahead :(

Mefenamic amid acid works really well for me. I’ve been taking it for period pain since I was 14.

BigSexyCrimeUnit · 26/10/2019 14:16

Sorry, that should be Mefenamic Acid.

ISpeakJive · 26/10/2019 14:32

Yep, I suffered every single month from the age of 13. In my forties now and after 3 children, no more pain (although they are still damn heavy)

I feel for you, OP. I used to have the hot water bottle and the strongest pills available.

I had terrible period pain right from being a child, I went on the pill at 18 & used it until I got married & wanted a child, when I got divorced I collapsed one period with the pain & got referred to a gynaecologist, after 2 laparoscopies I was diagnosed with endometriosis & put on norethisterone to stop my periods until I decided to have a hysterectomy, it was the best thing I ever did, no periods or pain any more.

According to my GP Naproxen is pointless and you can take 800mg of Ibuprofen instead, cheaper and just as effective. I found that, paracetamol and codeine helps, also stops the active bowel but needs to me take before nausea kicks in.

@OnceUponAMidnightBeery
My go told me the same. She's a massive advocate of women NOT having periods. Something to do with reducing the risk of cervical cancer due to not ovulating as much (do not take this as gospel)
@Nat6999 when I was at high school my home e teacher always has a supply of feminax in her cupboard. She honestly was like an angel to me before going on the pill - and for the first year or two after

I've never found paracetamol to be effective, needs to be cocodamol (preferably the 30:500 ones which need to be prescribed)

FaithInfinity · 27/10/2019 23:38

I suffered for years. Tried the pill but they all gave me mood swings. Mirena made me worse. My periods are helped by co-codamol (can’t take NSAIDS sadly so menfamic acid is out too, they both helped before they made me wheezy!), Buscopan and heat - I use a wheat bag at home and stick on pads when I have to move. Thing that helped the most though was having a laparoscopy, getting endometriosis diagnosed and treated. Definitely worth discussing options with your GP and pushing for a gynae referral.

I understand OP. It's horrible. I've always suffered, seemed to get better after I had my children but afyer being sterilised they are more painful than ever. The only thing that works for me is cocodamol off the doctor.

Horrible things, periods. I'm on Day 2 and it's only marginally less miserable than Day 1. My gut also likes to get in on the action, which is nice. TTC at the moment, which makes periods even less welcome.
