My DD is due to give birth to my first GC (a little boy) in less than a month and she has asked me to be her birth partner. Smile
can anyone give me some ideas as to what i should take to hospital for myself? She has a bag for her and a bag for baby, but apart from a change of clothes and maybe some snacks and magazines I have no idea what else i should be packing!!
any ideas would be much appreciated
TIA

Is it her first? It could be a long wait. I would maybe pack my slippers and something to do (I knitted a lot during all my pregnancies so probably knitting). I sound so rock and roll don't I?! Knitting and slippers!

Phone charger, and make sure you have important numbers saved

Cash for vending machines, car parking etc.

If you’re at hospital for a long time, with no chance of a shower, fresh clothes will help you feel that bit cleaner. You may want to bring some light clothes, as labour rooms can sometimes get quite hot, plus layers to add if it gets chilly.
Comfortable shoes. You may find yourself doing a lot of walking in early labour, pacing up and down corridors and climbing stairs.
Your own pillow. You may be able to grab some sleep in a chair, and having your own pillow will make you feel more comfortable. Birth partners get tired too, although probably best not to mention it!
Water spray, or a hand-held fan. These will help cool down your DD while she's in labour.

Everything mentioned above and a lip salve. Hospitals make my lips so dry. I'd also pop a refillable water bottle in my bag for the same reason.

Change of clothes including shoes. I was wearing plimsolls and was very aware of a sweaty foot smell by the 24th hour.

Change for vending machines.

Power Bank for phone charging.

A travel neck pillow.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I’m about to start the packing and would never have thought about spare shoes..DH is out buying me a travel neck pillow thingy as we speak and DM has suggested taking a cool bag full of food (she’s a feeder, lol) for the three of us ( me, DD and baby’s dad)

Any meds you’re on and/or paracetamol etc. Have heard that shops in hospitals can’t sell OTC meds (but never looked for them myself)

My husbands biggest advice to any birth partner is to just take one bag. He ended up running behind me being wheeled in the bed trying to carry a sports bag, a baby changing bag, my shoes, and our coats. Wouldn’t have been a problem if all had gone to plan and we didn’t have to be rushed to different ward but at that moment all the extra “stuff” was a real added stress!
