Underground on Halloween evening

If this seems a ridiculously stupid question please be kind!

I am taking my teenage daughter to the theatre in the West End on the evening of the 31st - didn’t even occur to me it was Halloween when we booked the tickets.

Dd is a young teen and rather nervous and I just wondered if anyone can tell me if there are generally many people in costumes around central London and on the Tube? And if so is the vibe generally quite jolly even around 11pm?

Thank you.

There’s often people in costume but the mood is pretty jovial in general. No worse than an normal thurs/fri/sat night

Smallinthesmoke · 25/10/2019 08:38

I wouldn't give it a second thought. I wouldn't expect many costumes and the vibe will be the usual London ignore-everything. (not sure I could ever describe the Underground as jolly).

Enjoy the show!

Thank you we always get the tube from the West End up to Paddington after the theatre but have been getting in a flap about whether it would feel threatening on Halloween and if we’d be better getting a cab.

Sounds like I may be being over dramatic Smile

Even quite a nervous NT thirteen year old will probably enjoy the fun of seeing people in costume on the Tube if she knows it’s because they’re going to Halloween parties and she’s with her mum. There might be a couple of people in gruesome zombie makeup but probably not many because it is a work night.

trendingsomewhere · 25/10/2019 09:08

You might see some people in costumes / makeup but you might not.

There won't be any craziness (for that you need to take the bus Grin)

If you are nervous why don't you take a black cab - and make that part of the treat?

squee123 · 25/10/2019 09:18

you might see a handful of people in costume but most people going to Halloween parties will be doing it at the weekend. Even then I wouldn't expect many. Honestly I really wouldn't worry about it. It won't be like the set of a horror movie Smile

A couple of weeks ago was the world zombie day . Dd and I were at Stratford station (going to a university open day) 4 people in WZD costumes wandered past......This was early afternoon . 😀. You've got to love London😆

Thank you everyone. Just to clarify dd isn’t my pfb and I’m not some sort of helicopter mum Smile she’s just had a very very difficult few months which she has been very brave about but as a result has little resilience. No issue at all with people in costumes just want to avoid any situation which may feel threatening and intimidating.

I'd be super suprised if people were acting in a threatening or intimidating way. It's rare on the tube any time if you exclude angry commuters at rush hour Grin

ForalltheSaints · 25/10/2019 18:19

Probably likely to be the same as normal on a Thursday evening, especially as Brexit will not be then.

Interesting thread
I'm a lifelong Londoner and I absolutely hate the atmosphere on the Tube at that kind of time

Halloween night would stress me out even more.

If you can afford the cab from theatre to Paddington, I'd def take it!
