If you were a hamster

If you were our pet hamster and you'd escaped in the night, where would you be right now?

Just asking for a friend.....ahem.

Ours was inside the printer we had to dismantle it to get him out

guffaux · 25/10/2019 17:36

across the hallway, under the pipe boxing of the downstairs loo

Musicalmistress · 25/10/2019 17:45

I would've gone behind the sink pedestal & found a previously unknown teeny tiny gap to get under the floorboards. I'd then hide out under the floor for nearly 2 weeks, sneaking up at night to munch on the food being left in my open cage before ending up sitting in the middle of the driveway & narrowly avoiding being squished by the car!

Gingaaarghpussy · 25/10/2019 18:24

I would randomly pop my head up out of a grass tussock as you are walking by with your dog, in the local dog walking area. Sad

HairyDogsOfThigh · 25/10/2019 18:36

I would climb onto your pillow in the night, so you woke up eyeball to eyeball with me.

QueenBeex · 25/10/2019 18:38

Cut the bottom of your brand new sofa open and you'll find me!!

CactusAndCacti · 25/10/2019 18:45

Sometimes I will just be sat in the open, I also like hiding in curtains and if I hide by the foot of one of the cabinets then I can't really be seen as I blend in.

But now, I am more clever, as I have a little explore, eat some food and then climb all the way back into my cage.

We once found ours when it trundled out from under the washing machine covered in black goo (which we later discovered was treacle, a tin had leaked at the back of a cupboard) and nonchalantly sat on my grandmothers (bare) toes. How she didn't kick the little sod across the kitchen I don't know, especially as hammy had figured out how to unscrew part of her cage that fell back into place once she was out and so we didn't actually know she was missing making furry hamster on the toes first thing in the morning very surprising!

She escaped a lot. By the time she died every inch of the cage was practically padlocked shut. We used to put torn up tissues from her bed into a teeny tiny hamster sized box and a little pile of hamster food next to it and we'd normally find her sound asleep in there with all the food in the morning.... or in the drinks cabinet behind the vodka, or curled up on the nice warm video player...

Put hamster food in the middle of the room...

My hamster was missing for days, i left food out, food was always gone but we could never find hamster.
Then one day i walked into the bedroom and there it was in the middle of the floor munching on the food....

Bar cage, he always squeezed out of.
Fuck knows how i watched him once, bloody impressive

shinynewapple · 26/10/2019 12:15

@almostn9ne have you caught the hamster yet?

5starshow · 26/10/2019 12:33

Ours was inside DSs fitted wardrobe. Think somewhere dark.

TheSilveryPussycat · 26/10/2019 12:43

In next door's kitchen bin i.e. our bin.

SalemSpellman · 26/10/2019 13:02

I would take a casual stroll throughout the house, avoiding the cat.

On my adventures I happen across some tomatoes ripening on the windowsill, I take a bite out of each of them.

Feeling tired I retire to the cake tin where I methodically eat the cake until I am discovered.

HairyDogsOfThigh · 26/10/2019 13:27

The other thing I'd do, is steal the last Christmas walnut, resulting in my young owner being blamed and punished for lying until it turns up squirrelled away with the rest of my stash.

motorcyclenumptiness · 26/10/2019 13:34

Our escaped hamster hid out in my Nan's hat. On another occasion he stowed away in my brother's footie kit.

Clevs · 26/10/2019 13:40

Places I've found escaped hamsters include behind the fridge (with a chewed cable) and behind the electric fire (goodness knows how they got behind there as it fitted well in it's recess with no gaps).

Damnloginpopup · 26/10/2019 13:56

I have gone for a short break in Hamsterdam and will return in a few days, shagged out and a bit vague. My cage is boring.

TwattyX · 26/10/2019 13:59

Mine got inside the walls and was running around inside the wall cavities. Was eventually caught in the loft 2 days after it went missing.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/10/2019 14:11

Ours shimmied down the curtain behind her cage, chewed a hole under an armchair and lived there for almost a week on the food she’d brought.
Tactical genius!

danmthatonestakentryanotheer · 26/10/2019 14:34

Ours chewed the fabric under the sofa and climbed in....it resulted in my up ending said sofa so "Hamlet" was at the bottom and cutting a hole just above her so I could get her out. We ended up putting a brick on top of her cage to prevent any further breakouts.

ProseccoIsTheAnswerHere · 26/10/2019 18:11

^ same as previous poster, had to cut a hole in the bottom

almostn9ne · 27/10/2019 15:05

Thanks for all the replies. Been crying laughing at some of them.

@shinynewapple - not found him yet. The kids are away on holiday so I've shut all the doors and left treats, water and newspaper as potential bedding material in all rooms and hallways etc in a bid to work out at least which space he's in. But NO SIGN of him yet. No droppings, not eaten any treats, not taken any of the newspaper.

Also sat in each room last night listening for him and couldn't hear anything.

Will keep you posted. There is a small boy hoping to find him!
