Lower back pain getting worse not better

I've had lower back pain for nearly 2 weeks now and despite 2 eye-wateringly expensive osteopath sessions & total rest from usual exercise routine, it's getting worse not better to the point where last night I was struggling to sleep Sad. Should I be seeing a GP in case there's something else going on? I don't remember doing anything to cause it but had done an unusually long & hilly run assumed it was due to over training. I've never had back pain (or much of anything really which is lucky as I'm a bit of a doctor avoider Blush)

Yes see the doctor, I wouldnt see the osteopath again until you've had medical exam.

I’ve found the GP useless. Just gave me painkillers.

Chiropractor twice a week and 3 weeks in it’s feeling a million times better.

I'm feeling exactly the same! Was in tears in the night with the pain last night. Hope you can get it sorted x

@NeedAnExpert that's my fear about taking a whole morning off work (10:30 Monday is all they can offer) to see a gp who can't see inside to know what's going on and will just give me painkillers I'm trying to avoid! Is chiropractor better than osteopath for backs? I go to the osteopath for any sporting injuries and she usually sorts me out very quickly but this is hideous Sad

@surlycurly how did you do yours? It's bloody miserable isn't it - I can't even reach to put my socks on now without some sort of acrobatics Confused I'm not sure whether the ever increasing stiffness is worsening back pain or lack of movement as I normally run & do yoga & Pilates twice a week but have literally done nothing except essential walking/sitting! I'm going stir crazy Sad

Please go back to the GP and ask for blood tests, I am not medically trained and could be completely wrong but in a relations case a bad back was a symptom of a more serious condition.

Ilikesweetpeas · 24/10/2019 22:02

A CT scan may show what's going on

Is chiropractor better than osteopath for backs?

Not sure. This is my first experience. Mine is muscular and has flared after years of overcompensation. Acupuncture, massage and re-alignment of my pelvis is really helping. I have to make myself switch between sitting, standing and lying down to keep it in check, and he’s given me a couple of exercises to do to get the muscles that aren’t working working. He works with a national sports team so has credentials.

I've had lower back issues in the past and had success with physiotherapy appointments chiropractors never really seemed to help ditto osteopaths

AlexaAmbidextra · 24/10/2019 22:37

Please see your GP. My mum saw an osteopath for her bad back and it turned out they made it much worse as they were manipulating four fractured vertebrae. Unlikely if you’re fairly young but you need proper medical attention.
