ExpletiveDEVILighted · 24/10/2019 21:30

Pot Noodles? Pasta with pouches of sauce?

TricklBOO · 24/10/2019 21:30

Noodle pots (not necessarily Pot Noodles - the 'posher' ones)

TrainspottingWelsh · 24/10/2019 21:31

Crumpets, bagels, English muffins etc. Cheese. Pasta and sauce. Jacket potatoes done in microwave. Left over dinner.

Assuming you're in the uk it's cold enough that barring meat and fish, most fridge stuff should be fine in a cool room. And a decent cool bag is good enough for cooked meat for a day.

ssd · 24/10/2019 21:33

TBH I just threw out a load of posh pot noodles, they didn't like them. Eggs are here anyway. Plenty bread. Don't like tinned soup. Or spam yuck 😁

Hotdogs? The Bunlimited hotdogs are in a pack and don't need to be refrigerated. They're pretty good.

Wheat2Harvest · 24/10/2019 21:35

Unless you are living in the Australian Outback I would be inclined to buy normal food on a daily basis.

GiantKitten · 24/10/2019 21:36

Sandwiches Grin

My fridge died on Monday 😭 the day I did a huge shop. We survived on porridge, corned beef hash, jacket potatoes with tuna, beans etc and toastie sandwiches. Plus a few ready meals we just bought on the day. Drinks we kept in a ice bucket. Now I'm basically hugging my new fridge which arrived today. I'll never take them for granted again lol

cometothinkofit · 24/10/2019 21:40

Have teens needing food
In my experience, they are quite capable of feeding themselves, if not a proper meal, at least something. If they won't eat what you're offering, tell them to make their own arrangements, the ungrateful sods.

Tartyflette · 24/10/2019 21:41

You can buy breakfast type 'pouches' eg sausage bacon and potato hash, they keep forever and just need to be fried in a pan or baked in the oven in a tray.
Eg
www.sainsburys.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/gb/groceries/top-rated-44/sainsburys-bacon-brunch-with-onion-400g?storeId=10151&langId=44&krypto=bjjj%2B0vh6bZKau5CjQuhF02jmDd1SnnwYTCJuLFJgz6iBXtn%2Bg%2FPsZ0HsE%2BVaBy7BRcDqLofTM%2BxMkBOIrHCwKAevTh%2BcCPMszQn0XPXMeww2s%2F9VKe%2FopG3adMZGG4nTYF%2Fiei9GuAFwGiu9ZR0jUDC3IBCOz7NRh9vSZg5sxU%3D&ddkey=https%3Agb%2Fgroceries%2Ftop-rated-44%2Fsainsburys-bacon-brunch-with-onion-400g
And in the same vein - corned beef hash with a poached egg on top. Tin of corned beef, cooked potato, onion, green pepper (optional) fried together till hot and crispy.

fruitpastille · 24/10/2019 21:42

Pop a cool box outside your door to use as a fridge? Put milk etc in there. Sandwiches with houmous, cheese, peanut butter. Fruits, crisps, biscuits. Pasta pesto with pine nuts. Tuna on jacket spuds. Hot dogs. As pp said, just buy meat and fish to use same day.

I'm sorry op Thanks. It must be awful (I'm being genuine here and I only have one teen)! Grin

Lwmommy · 24/10/2019 22:20

All fruit and veg is fine outside the fridge
Butter
UHT milk
Nuts
Bread/crumpets/muffins/bagels/wraps
Eggs
Pasta/noodles/rice
Jars of pasta sauce

Buy meat as needed
Cheese will be fine for a few days in a cool dry cupboard

Cured meats like pepperoni/chorizo can be kept out of the fridge

Snowy111 · 24/10/2019 22:25

Pasta. Tinned tuna. Loyd grossman tomato and basil sauce, grated cheddar cheese on top. Delish.

BarbaraofSeville · 24/10/2019 22:28

would they eat tinned rice pudding?

What's your plan for getting another one? TBH, if it's a money issue they're going to have to get over themselves, because if they won't eat tinned food, which tends to be cheaper, it's only going to prolong the time you have no fridge.

BlackeyedGruesome · 24/10/2019 23:03

buy milk everyday, keep it somewhere cool (in the insulated cupboard previously known as a fridge works) lasts a couple of days.

(found this out when my bloody hotpoint kept giving up working. it only works if the top drawer of the freezer is out. )

RB68 · 24/10/2019 23:08

Anything needing a fridge will be fine outside back door for 24 hrs or even more really. Would keep in a sealed container because of wildlife risk though

We used to keep stuff on our outside windowsill at college...we lived in an attic so it had a long way to fall!!!

RB68 · 24/10/2019 23:09

Milk also lasts well in a bucket of water outside
