How should the refund be split?

RefundRequested · 24/10/2019 17:58

Deposit for a cabin.
Family of 6 and a couple.

Total was 400 (300 for family, 100 for couple)

Refund was minus 35 charges. So we got 365 back.

What should I send to couple?

Should it matter there is 6 of us and 2 of them?

91.25

I would split it in the ratio paid e.g in a 3:1 ratio.
I’m assuming that family paid separately to the couple? If so, the number of people is irrelevant.

LIZS · 24/10/2019 18:00

Who cancelled?

GreenTulips · 24/10/2019 18:01

35/4 is £8.75

Send them £91.25

They paid a quarter of the costs so receive a quarter of the refund?

Shakirasma · 24/10/2019 18:01

91.25

SmilingButClueless · 24/10/2019 18:02

91.25 as they paid a quarter of the total deposit so should get a quarter of the refund back

SmileCheese · 24/10/2019 18:07

If you cancelled I would give them the full £100 back.

If it was a joint decision to cancel then they get a quarter of the refund back as they paid 1/4 of the total deposit. Therefore they would get £91.25 but I'd probably round it up to £92.

It was the company that cancelled, not us.

It was a group booking so not seperate.

OK thanks

Why are you paying charges if the company cancelled on you?

SpaceDinosaur · 24/10/2019 18:13

Why on earth are you paying charges if the company cancelled?

SmileCheese · 24/10/2019 18:13

It was the company that cancelled, not us.

Then why on earth are you being expected to pay a cancellation charge?? That's bloody madness.

Likethebattle · 24/10/2019 18:14

There shouldn’t be charges x

Queenoftheashes · 24/10/2019 18:16

What are the charges for exactly ?

ShirleyPhallus · 24/10/2019 18:17

Why on earth are they charging you if they’ve cancelled??

Chloemol · 24/10/2019 18:17

If the company cancelled you should not pay charges, I would there ask for that back as well. If they refuse then it’s 91.25 as others have said

mankyfourthtoe · 24/10/2019 18:19

I'd ask for the charges back and give people back what they have as a deposit.
If not then ratio out the charges.

LIZS · 24/10/2019 18:36

If company cancelled there should be no deposit deduction. Check terms and conditions.

AJPTaylor · 24/10/2019 18:52

Huh? Who paid it should get it back (am I being thick?)

plunkplunkfizz · 24/10/2019 18:54

Why would they ever get a refund disproportionate to what they paid? If they paid a quarter, they get a quarter back.

FrancesFlute · 24/10/2019 18:55

Why charges if it was the company?! That's absurd!

Drum2018 · 24/10/2019 18:57

I'd firstly query why the company charge when they are the ones cancelling. But I'd give back £91.25 to the couple.

SpookilyBadOooooooh · 24/10/2019 18:59

It’s like an echo chamber, but I’ll say it again anyway, WHY charges when they have cancelled if anything they should be compensating you surely?!

Crunchymum · 24/10/2019 19:01

Sorry, not understanding what the £35 charges relate to? Surely you were due a full refund?
