Hi There Pihusachan,

Thanks for posting - we're not able to offer any insider knowledge on the schooling in that area but we would suggest posting in Education (Secondary or Primary as applicable) to see whether there are any parents on those boards who can offer some advice.

Good luck with your search

For primary or secondary schools? Trafford primary schools are currently undergoing Ofsted inspections this year - some with surprising results. My children's school was inspected a few weeks ago with no concerns being raised but another local school received an inadequate rating with some parents transferring their children out. I live in a suburb of altrincham, most suburbs are nice though but expensive. Sale is more affordable though.

Anyone who asks for a posh area clearly isn't posh.

TBH the whole of south manchester is pretty grim- Wilmslow and Altrncham may be "posh' within the local context but are just the best of the locality.

cheadle hulme

new free schools. Again posh within the area but still a bit grim. You don't have to travel far from these areas to be in not so desirable areas. School catchments are very tight and good schools are oversubscribed (hence the new free schools)

From the sentence structure of the OP’s post, it seems English is not their first language so perhaps some of the MNers here should put their snobby claws away.

I think what the OP means somewhere quietly prosperous, attractive, safe. It’s what most of us aspire to, surely?

Manchester has a world class university and teaching hospital as well as three of the most academic schools in the UK, and it’s affordable in that a normal salary multiple can actually buy you a house in most areas.

OP, first choose your commute and school and then find a home within easy reach of both.

I lived in Manchester very happily for five years and in many ways preferred it to the very posh indeed part of London in which I now live!
