What room to put firstborn in?

Hi All

I have only just discovered my partner and I are expecting, which is all very exciting but also very daunting and I am overwhelmed!

The first discussion is where should we put the nursery?

We have 2 bedrooms, and the front bedroom is north facing and can be quite cold sometimes, or the south facing room, which is currently our room, but gets very very warm in the summer and I am just unsure which is best, as we will definitely ensure that we will get the room to the correct temperature, just unsure which one!

I was thinking perhaps north facing room, as it is easier to warm a room than to cool a room?

Please let me know thoughts and if I am being too over-dramatic!

Thanks xx

The cooler room.

However, they will be in with you for the first 12 months so don't worry too much yet

I was just going to say 'yours'. As in, with you.

Thank you so much tumbleisatwat, we are grabbing a crib for the first 12 months for the newborn to be with us, was just unsure of after and which room we would need to start prepping :)

They will be in with you!

Get a side car cot, not a crib.

If you have a section or plan to breastfeed, you'll want one anyway.

Colder room, you can take off a layer or add layers to suit a lot easier. And we were told the worst a cold baby will do is cry.. obviously I’m not talking -50c but a cold room.

HappyDinosaur · 23/10/2019 15:19

Is one of the rooms quieter than another, above the kitchen, fronting onto a busy road etc? I'd choose by that to be honest, temperature is fairly easy to adjust but noise when you are trying to get a little one to sleep can be very frustrating!

firsttimemum9x · 23/10/2019 15:19

I know baby will be in with me at the beginning I meant after :)

firstimemamma · 23/10/2019 15:21

The cooler room unless it's significantly noisier.

firsttimemum9x · 23/10/2019 15:22

HappyDinosaur, they very hot room backs onto the garden, whereas the cooler room is at front of house. But we live in a quiet estate, so it may just be the odd car that will drive past, was just unsure which is best - cooler and front of house, or warmer and back of house.

firsttimemum9x · 23/10/2019 15:24

Lunafortheloveogod that's what we were thinking, it isn't dramatically colder, you can just feel it sometimes in the middle of the night. Thank you for this :)

Danglingmod · 23/10/2019 15:24

Always colder. It's really important babies don't overheat. Far too many people still think babies need to be hotter than they do and it can be dangerous.

firsttimemum9x · 23/10/2019 15:28

Danglingmod - Exactly what I was reading and this is when I started to think about it. I can always add layers etc. if they are cold and I read that the worst they do is cry when cold, which in the grand scheme of things I would rather that!
