Posting here for traffic-
I've had some pain in my right side at the top for a couple of days. I didn't think anything of it but I've just went to the bath and noticed this on my arm pit. It's also pretty swollen too! I really don't know what to do and I can't get a doctors appointment for two weeks😫

What the hell is this

My guess is it is an ingrown hair

SmellbowSmellbow123 · 23/10/2019 12:12

Sabaceous cyst? What happens if you squeeze it?!

Atalune · 23/10/2019 12:14

Abscess maybe?

Looks sore. Flowers

@Atalune - I've just really panicked but I'm hoping that it's nothing serious

Can you go and see a pharmacist?

If your worrying about the big C. I have been told by the oncologist that it’s very very rarely painful. That’s why it’s so hard/late to diagnose.

Disfordarkchocolate · 23/10/2019 12:20

Could you see a nurse? Ask for the thread to be moved to Sporner Corner, lots of weirdly knowledgable people there.

InOtterNews · 23/10/2019 12:21

Looks like the start of hidradenitis suppurativa.

Is it painful when you put pressure/hot to the touch?

wowza7 · 23/10/2019 12:24

@Atalune - I think I'm going to go speak to a pharmacist but I hope she doesn't say visit gp as it's so hard to get a appointment round here
@Disfordarkchocolate - how do I ask for it to be moved
@InOtterNews - it's very painful to touch

Is your name Sigourney?
Grin

Patroclus · 23/10/2019 12:30

I think it a gland thing, my friend had something very similar

Patroclus · 23/10/2019 12:33

lymphadenopathy or the black death (not really)

NerrSnerr · 23/10/2019 12:33

Did you ask for a same day appointment? If it's sore and getting bigger I'd call back this afternoon/ tomorrow and ask for a same day.

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 23/10/2019 12:36

Hot flannel in salt water compress. Cover in Savlon cream.3x a day. See what happens.

InOtterNews · 23/10/2019 12:37

@wowza7 ok sounds like it then. I can't find my other post about this. I've has this since mid-twenties. You do need to see a doctor and possibly a dermatologist if you have sustained flare-ups.

Treatment is hit and miss and there is no cure. However, you can keep it under control. For me this meant:

  • long term low dose antibiotics
  • topical antibiotic when there's a flare-up
  • wash daily with hibiscub in affected
  • don't use deodorant / don't shave

I've had a few persistent ones removed surgically but I think this rare these days.

While you're waiting for a Doctors appointment (though if it's really painful I would ask for an emergency appointment as you need antibiotics)

  • you can buy hibiscrub from the chemist - use daily
  • use hot compress (as hot as you can bear it) a few times a day to encourage it to draw it out / alternatively buy magnesium sulphate paste fro chemist which will help to draw it out. (Have dressings on stand-by)
Jackreacherswife · 23/10/2019 12:40

Try magnesium sulphate paste, you can get it from pharmacy. Put it on and put a dressing over, if it's an ingrowing hair type thing, it will draw it to a head. You can also hold hot water bottle over the dressing to speed it up.

antisupermum · 23/10/2019 13:26

I've had similar. It will be an ingrown hair caused by shaving. As PP suggested; hot compress and sudocream. They are sore and frustrating but they do go away. (TMI but I also occasionally get them in my bikini line and they are really annoying).

UnfamousPoster · 23/10/2019 13:39

If you struggle with your GP, call 111 and ask their advice. They can arrange an appointment with a GP for you, even if it's not your own.

I know someone that called their doctors the other week and was told that the same day appointments were already taken (60 seconds after the phone lines opened for the day!) but a quick call to 111 and they had an appointment on the same day, at their own surgery... Heaven knows how! They've now had to make a follow up appointment and as it's now known to not be urgent have had to go in the general wait which was 4 weeks!

Looks sore though OP - hope you get it sorted soon
