If you could have all your old, much-loved worn-out clothes back again ...

... would you want them?

I had the thought today that if all mine from the last 35 years re-appeared just as they were when they were new, and all the shoes and bags too, I would have the most fabulous wardrobe and I'd be so wildly, incredibly happy. I hate it when things I love wear out, and I miss them.

(I'd pass on the 80s batwing leather jacket with the frilly peplum, though.)

My orange jumper!
I do still have it, but it is totally threadbare and barely holding together.
It came from Evans and is just a massive jumper with a v neck, collar, and kangaroo pocket, made of a sort of boucle cotton fleece stuff.
I wore it for 20 years and it was the one all my children snuggled into, threw up on, peed on, and loved. In the end only the dubious stains hold it together.
I love it and would give anything to have it back as new Grin

Timeout the Saxone shoes were indeed purchased in the 80s and similar to those in the picture below

I had some gorgeous long dresses when the maxi was in..1973. A beautiful close fitting red floral number. I was a size 10 then and it fitted like a glove.
I bought it either at Chelsea girl, etam, c and a
Stuff was soo well made then
I can’t even remember getting rid of them but I must’ve done

Oh yes I hate it when something gets ripped/ lost and I can’t rebuy it in the shops!

I had a black velvet top with flared sleeves that I wish I hadn't got rid of. Sad It was originally from M&S (I got it from a charity shop) and the sleeves had just the right amount of flare, it was v-necked and had ribbons to ruch up the top part more and a diamond shaped crochet decoration. I did find one on eBay but it sold before I could buy it! Also wish I hadn't got rid of my first Evanescence t-shirt, it was faded and holey and too big but I miss it! I also wore a black silk broomstick skirt to death and various black cotton skirts.

Add all the other velvet tops I charity shopped. I got fed up with velvet a few years ago (long hair and static-y materials) and also got rid of lots of strappy tops that I miss.

A pink bomber jacket style jacket that DM bought me in Jigsaw c1996. I wore it until there were so many holes it had to go.

I still have my jeans from the late 90s and whilst they’re a bit tighter than they once were I am thoroughly enjoying wearing them. Why can I not now get jeans without Lycra but with a nice shape?!

ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens · 24/10/2019 12:53

Oh yes, if they'd fit me as well. I had a tartan pinafore bought in 1992 that I don't remember throwing out, but I must have done - I miss that. I still have a dilapidated green suede coat that I would love to have restored to its former glory. I had a pair of heeled black brogues, also in the 90s, that were so comfy - never seen another pair like them. I miss the 90s.

For me, no: it's taken me a long time to work out what clothes actually work for me, and I really don't miss the things I decluttered or sold along the way. The exception to that is knitwear: I've lost a lot to moths over the years, and I'd love some of that soft, comfy cashmere back, along with one particular M&S jumper. It was navy merino, in a squashy reverse knit, boyfriend fit, and it was lovely. I have a photo of me wearing it on the day I went in to hospital to have DD, and damn I miss that jumper!

I hate it when clothes just get worn and tatty. I'm still happily wearing some clothes from uni/ sixth form in the 90s.

Shoes in particular devestate me when they are beyond redemption at the cobblers. I hate having to go through the shoes breaking my feet in stage, and too often my feet just give up and that's after the novelty of actually finding something I could put my feet in.

Currently missing my grungy skirts, floral slip dresses and floral chiffon shirts from my teenage years. Plus the velvet hat with the roses holding up the brim.
