Do you know Bristol?

Visiting Bristol for the weekend next month. Can anyone familiar with the city suggest the best location for a hotel? Only staying two nights, travelling by train and have never been before, so an area that's central for all the main things to see and do would be great (ie. I'm NOT looking for a quirky gem in the trendy suburbs). Don't have much idea about the geography of the city. Thanks.

There is an Ibis at Millennium Square which is really close to the Waterfront. I’ve stayed at the Holiday Inn by the Bear Pit which was fine and fairly central.

If you want shopping, as mentioned Cabots Circus has a good mix of shops and places to eat. I wouldn’t bother with Cribbs on the outskirts.

Bristol is quite spread out but if you don’t mind walking you’ll be fine. I always have a great time when I go. We enjoyed the ferry which you can get from behind Temple Meads, if you get off at the end you can walk back to Millennium Square and up the back to Park Street which has a nice mix of shops and places to eat.

Bath is so much nicer and you have the famous Spa. I never really liked Bristol even though I lived there for about 12 years.

We stayed at a Future Inn last time we were in Bristol, which was handy for the shops. It kind of depends on what you want to do whilst you're in Bristol as it's pretty diverse.

Mercury Brigstow is lovely and bang in the middle of most of the food/drink places.

It’s a really good spot to walk up Harbourside and cheap enough to get an Uber to Clifton.

Also very close to Small Bar which is home to the best Korean fried chicken, next to Three Brothers burger boat and not a million miles away from Beirut Mezze which is hands down Bristol’s food hidden gem.

Try the Berkeley Square hotel. It's near Park St, the museum, Whiteladies road, college green and is easily walkable to Clifton Village and the suspension bridge.

I'm not a local, but whenever I stay in Bristol I go to the Novotel Bristol Centre. It's clean, comfortable and not too pricey, and the staff are really nice. Easy walking distance from the city centre and the station (or if you're flying in, the airport bus goes to the station and you can walk from there).

Bristol also has 'Boris Bike' type things which are not only very reasonable, but you can leave them anywhere, if you are ready to tackle those hills on a bike Grin

The Hampton by Hilton is very nice, we had a lovely big room, and it wasn’t too expensive.

This is great; thank you all so much. I have booked the Ibis and am looking forward to our stay. Bath is nice but we've "been there, done that"!
