Anyone with cat allergies successfully had a cat?

I know, I know....DH is allergic, DC desperately want a cat... I've researched low protein producing cats (the protein most people are allergic to) such as the Russian blue. However, I don't know anyone whose done this. Any positive stories?

We have ragdolls, beautiful cats but needy!

I'm allergic and asthmatic but taking inhalers correctly and an anti histamine if I accidently rub my eyes after stroking them seems to be enough.

I think you get used to your own cat and can 'acclimatise' to it.
