Hand hold

Sorry I know this is pathetic but I am handing in my notice at work today and I am bricking it. I am leaving due to senior leadership being an absolute car crash in general and work affecting my mental health. I am leaving, however, at a fairly crucial time and I know it is going to leave them in the lurch a bit, but on the other hand I cannot continue the way I am.

Any tips about how to tell my boss?

@ilovemushroomsoup

No advice, other than be yourself and be honest ! Hope it goes okay!

I will work my full notice period and obviously I am completely entitled to leave whenever I want but I feel guilty.

@ilovemushroomsoup you shouldn't feel guilty!!

This will sound awful but they will replace you and you need to think about you!

what is it you do?

I work in governance for a small charity. I am supposed to work three days a week but I work all five, as well as evenings and weekends now. It's too much.

This is exactly how I felt. Jacked in my notice 2 weeks ago, totally leaving my boss in the lurch but after an incident at work and ongoing mh which impacts on how I respond to such things I decided it was best for me to leave. No one was expecting it and everyone is shocked and loads of people will be affected by having to cover my work.

BUT booms has been off with me everyone is pleased for me as they knew I wasn't happy and they're pleased I've done the right thing for my family.

It will be ok, don't feel guilt. All jobs are just that...a job!

I did it too, three months ago, under very similar circumstances.
Sent short email saying that I would be leaving the company on x date (exact end of notice period). Added a very short and non-committal explanation.
Reasoned that I should not feel guilty (and didn't) as I was a commodity to them that could be replaced easily and quickly.
Worked diligently to the end with no bitching or complaining.
Left. Immediately felt happier and all stress disappeared.
I was, however, lucky to have savings that allowed me to do this. I really appreciate that other people may not be that fortunate.
I am now starting to look for another job in my own time and will only consider applying for jobs that I really want and are a good fit for me.
I know that everyone is different and this is just my experience.
The most important things to consider are your mental health and wellbeing.
Good luck.
