Anyone good at sewing? Are these fixable?

I bought these from Zara yesterday and slipped over this morning picking up dog poo and put the bloody knee through.

I am shite at sewing, so no idea if it’s possible. They’re a stretchy material and there’s just frayed edges and not much overlap to play with. They’re only £20 but I’m loathe to chuck them after less than a day!

Look on Pinterest, omg there are some amazing' fix' techniques!!

CherryCheezcake · 20/10/2019 14:33

Fixable, certainly. Fixable so they look like new and you can't see where the hole was, definitely not Grin.

You could find a piece of similar colour material and do an iron-on patch with wundaweb, either on the back or the front, but you will see it. Likewise a sewn-on patch will be visible. Cobbling/ darning a hole like that might be a bit less visible, but might pull the rest of the garment slightly out of shape.

I would consider using a bit of iron on fabric in the correct colour but on the inside.

You can darn it by hand.

I’d put a Bay City Rollers patch over it.

I second getting a piece of red fabric and fixing with wundaweb. Depending on how perfect you want the end result, probably best to stick on the outside (after with sharp scissors cutting back frayed bit, or it will create a bump). Cut fabric as small as possible to cover. I doubt anyone else would notice though. If you just use them for walking dog perhaps it doesn't matter if there's a hole?

Lunafortheloveogod · 20/10/2019 14:57

Be fancy and add knee patches? Cut both knees n make the intentionally ripped looking?

Every time I use wonder web it fucks it’s self after the first wash Confused maybe I’m over/not ironing it enough.

Ariela · 20/10/2019 15:17

You could darn it, or sew some matching colour fabric behind and mend the hole - but it wouldn't be so pretty as putting an applique patch over it, something like a heart shape or a Scottie dog in red or black perhaps?

deste · 20/10/2019 15:35

I would put a piece of red material behind it and colour in the black part with a permanent marker to match the tartan.

DoctorAllcome · 21/10/2019 07:14

Thinking further on this. If you have the receipt. You could try returning or exchanging them as faulty since you only bought them a day ago. A single fall shouldn’t cause a tear like that unless the material were defective to begin with.

Oldraver · 21/10/2019 07:44

Are there any back pockets you can up pick and use as a patch ?

missnevermind · 21/10/2019 08:12

Yes picking off pockets is my go to when having to mend holes. Also the wonder Web, iron it into position and then put a few stitches in it to make sure it stays where it's supposed to

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/10/2019 08:17

Take them back and swap them.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 21/10/2019 08:25

Put a hole in the other knee - then it’ll look deliberate and oh so cool! Smile
