I'm wanting a special gift for my friend's 50th birthday. Maximum budget £100.

But I'm stuck for ideas.

Any suggestions?

You know your friend and you're stuck for ideas. All we know is that she's female and 50. It's not a lot to go on....

I always like some nice cashmere lined or sheepskin gloves, eg:
www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/ladies-cashmere-lined-leather-gloves-in-tan
www.celticandco.com/womens/womens-accessories/shop-all/sheepskin-gloves
(Cheaper versions of both available, obv!)

Actually I think you need to work out what your friend likes. I'd really hate doggy DNA testing, Jo Malone perfume, theatre tickets

CherryPlum · 20/10/2019 18:27

And particularly escape rooms!

Tell us a bit about your friend.

I would like...
100ml Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay
Theatre tickets
Concert tickets
A few items from Bobbi Brown Christmas range
Handbag
Coach purse

Thanks for all suggestions so far.

Tell us a bit about your friend.

We've been friends since primary school. (So over 40 years).
She has no kids. (Only step kids who are older teenagers)
She has a dog (a corgi) who is her life.
She's mixed race (Pakistani / British) but grew up in the Home Counties.
She has a great sense of humour. She's very funny.
She loves watching murder mysteries eg Midsomer murders.
She likes walking her dog and going to the gym.
She likes a drink. (White wine and cocktails)
She lives in the country and considers herself a country bumpkin - but on the occasions she does make an effort, she scrubs up well!

I'm not sure what else to say.

And she also loves gardening and being outdoors.

She sounds fab! If you know her taste, I would suggest jewellery, statement perfume or look for something gardeny on the RHS website?

Notwiththeseknees · 20/10/2019 22:07

Just thought - Sweaty Betty gym bag?

CloudPop · 20/10/2019 22:15

A nice bit of jewellery. Necklace, bracelet - something she'll wear often

AdaColeman · 20/10/2019 22:27

Something for her garden like a bird bath, or archway to train climbers over or small statue.

Day out together at a nearby stately home and gardens with afternoon tea .

Drawing of the two of you together when you were children, taken from a photo. Or a painting of somewhere you went together when you were girls.

Gertie75 · 20/10/2019 23:07

Could you get in touch with friends and relatives and collect lots of photos of her throughout her life, scan them and compile a photo book, I did this for my parents and people had photos they'd never seen before.

Pantsomime · 20/10/2019 23:12

Sun dial? Can get them inscribed and set up properly by giving grid ref of her address etc

Waterandlemonjuice · 20/10/2019 23:15

A photo book is a great idea.

For one friends 50th I took her on a surprise tour of places that were important to us. We met at my house, drove to London (they were all in the same part of London), had drinks in a bar we used to go to when we were 25, lunch in a restaurant we used to go to, visited the outside of a couple of flats we used to share and ended up in an hotel we’d stayed in when we were 30 something. It was a fun trip down memory lane.

PriscillaTheHun · 21/10/2019 17:21

Thank you everyone. Really great ideas!

I'm going to look into the photobook idea and dig out pictures of us over the 40 years.
