Who is walking past my house at 3am?

So having exhausted all of our own theories, I wonder if MN has any good ideas.

About 6 weeks ago I bought a Ring doorbell. I'm expecting a baby in a few weeks and I'm already excited about knowing whether it's worth getting up to answer the door.

The strange bit, though, is that since having the doorbell I've noticed that someone keeps walking past my house at 3:25am. I live at the end of a cul-de-sac so it's not a through road. Theres a green out of the front of my house which separates the path running along the front of me/my neighbours and the roadway. The mystery walker is always wearing a high-vis jacket and only usually walks one way (into the dead end). It is always bang on 3:25am.

I am the last house on my row and I've already spoken to the house in the very end of the cul-de-sac and it's not them.

I wondered about the milkman but I know he comes about 5:15 as he often meets my other half.

It's not every day, but averages 3 times per week. Not always the same day.

The most recent time the camera caught them was 3:15am yesterday morning. They were 10 minutes early and this time walked both ways past my house, with a torch shining on the floor as they walked back. There is approx 20 seconds between them walking past the first and second time.

So, wise MN, any good ideas? Or am I going to have to camp out at my window from 3am tomorrow in the hope of seeing them?!

Can you buy another camera or two for the sides of your house to see if you can track his movements further?

LoveNote · 19/10/2019 22:03

i think he is renting a garage and living in it

ZootSuit · 19/10/2019 22:14

@PancakeAndKeith oh my goodness did that not drive you mad?! I would have had to know where they were going! Confused

Smidge001 · 19/10/2019 22:24

I just want to say that is the neatest diagram I have ever seen on mumsnet.
Star

PancakeAndKeith · 19/10/2019 22:40

It has driven me to utter distraction. Sometimes they go to the supermarket, I hear them unpacking the shopping, I know that sometimes they are walking the dog in a nearby coastal town (the youngest teen mentioned this once when we talked about a thunderstorm the previous night).

It’s not bang on 3am every night but it is the middle of the night rather than late evening or early morning.

We have now moved to sleeping in the back bedroom so we don’t hear them now.

AnyMinuteNow · 19/10/2019 22:41

Oh my god I had so much fun trying to read that giantwatermelon

Just trying it again. burgerled

Katinski · 19/10/2019 22:42

Another Star from me, tooSmile
our local p'lice do a walk round about that time too,OP. Ours is a very safe area and p'raps the walk by keeps it that way? Dunno...

Crunchymum · 19/10/2019 22:50

Maybe leave some stones outside and see if the passer by moves them???

Iwantacookie · 19/10/2019 22:59

Go out and get friendly with him then in a few weeks when baby cant wont sleep ask him if he minds walking baby around the block with his dog too.

TrainspottingWelsh · 19/10/2019 23:03

Or crunchy he's actually leaving piles of stones and twig effigies outside other homes because he's the Blair witch.

Obviously in hi viz because in surburban locations it's be safe, be seen

happymrsc · 19/10/2019 23:11

I have no clue but I need to know now! Are you spying tonight OP?

PurpleViolin · 19/10/2019 23:17

Hope youvr set alarm

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 19/10/2019 23:25

It’s very clearly the tooth fairy, people! Grin they have to wear hi vis now. ‘Elf ‘n safety Wink you don’t see him coming back because he’s still in his reduced size state and stays in it until his finished all the houses.

safariboot · 19/10/2019 23:27

I agree with PP, the consistent timing suggests it's not a burglar. And since you only pick up one person I doubt it's a drug dealer or surely your camera would see his customers too.

If you live near enough to any kind of workplace, then I'm backing the idea he's using the cul-de-sac to park, especially if there's double yellows or stuff on the main roads.

PancakeAndKeith · 19/10/2019 23:29

I agree that it’s someone walking his dog before starting an early shift. You can’t see the dog because it’s walking on the grass.

NutellaQuest · 19/10/2019 23:44

Blatant placemark!

Lotsalotsagiggles · 19/10/2019 23:49

Maybe one of bourse opposite have let their friend park in the space and they live nearby with no parking? Hence why coming from other direction

KindKoala · 19/10/2019 23:52

I need to know what he’s up to OP 😂 Hopefully it’s harmless and boring.

Superlooper · 20/10/2019 00:02

Could he walk down the path and back the roadway? I do a lot of that - work beside a housing estate and go for a walk at lunch time, around all the lovely cul de sacs. Never done it at 3am tho Grin

Justaboy · 20/10/2019 00:54

House near here on a hill top several people have died there with various cancers no one seem to know why.

Bloody great power lines go right over the house!

Concidence?.

Justaboy · 20/10/2019 00:55

Sorry wrong thread!!

Iflyaway · 20/10/2019 01:13

It could be a water board official. They quite often send out teams to listen for leaks on the network that aren't yet visible above ground.

At 3 A.M? LOL.

dodgeballchamp · 20/10/2019 01:26

.

Ariela · 20/10/2019 01:44

I say newspaper delivery, one comes down to a neighbour by car at about 3.15am

Tojigornot · 20/10/2019 01:54

I find the suspicion about this really odd. No-one is going to look for burglary opportunities on that very regular schedule. Lots of people have a work life that involves starting or leaving at unsocial times. Just leave him alone, walking along the street in the early hours isn’t a crime.
