Falklands war

plunkplunkfizz · 19/10/2019 14:52

I was one then and I still knew that.

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 14:53

OK thank you :)

Well done you. At the age of one I knew my favourite Teddy and that brocoli was yuck

A difference from then was that we had a Prime Minister worthy of respect, even if you disagreed with her policies. Unlike the disgraceful occupant now.

ALongHardWinter · 19/10/2019 17:13

Something to do with the Falklands war I would imagine.

Morgenrot · 19/10/2019 17:22

Falklands war

TattiePants · 19/10/2019 17:26

I did wonder about this earlier (but couldn't be arsed to google).

BlueThursday · 19/10/2019 18:27

I was still gestating but could have taken a good guess at what it would be

StealthPolarBear · 19/10/2019 18:47

Great for you. We'll done you. I couldn't so I asked. Would you have preferred I didn't?

I was 4 and didn't know either @StealthPolarBear Grin

misspiggy19 · 19/10/2019 18:50

I didn’t know either

msjrmesq · 19/10/2019 18:50

Must have been the Falklands war.

Perihelion · 19/10/2019 19:18

Falklands war was 1982.... I was at guide camp.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/10/2019 19:36

The Falklands War. I was erm a teenager. I do recall being quite baffled at the time in that droopy teen way. Blush

Cheguevarahamster · 19/10/2019 19:38

Perihelion, I was at guide camp too!

Faultymain5 · 19/10/2019 19:43

I was 7, I didn't know then and was only mildly curious now (focusing on other things, like brexit in 2019).
Thanks for asking.

I was on the French Exchange trip. Pre mobile phones and interweb etc, I was actually quite worried. I would scan the foreign newspapers whenever we walked past a newsagent, but the UK papers were always a day behind and the French language ones never had anything useful on the front pages. On one outing, I realised the adult couple close by in whatever historical attraction it was were British, so asked if they had any recent news. I got told that they weren't remotely interested and had come on holiday to escape that sort of thing. These are presumably the same older people who complain bitterly that young people are completely self absorbed...

Ginger1982 · 19/10/2019 19:46

I don't think @plunkplunkfizz meant that she actually knew at the actual age of one, OP. Calm down dear. 🙄

Somebodystired · 19/10/2019 19:47

I'm a 28 year old historian who works in government and I didn't know, so oh well...

Now we know OP Wink every day's a school day!

StealthPolarBear · 20/10/2019 07:04

Oh dear Ginger1982. I was making fun of the comment and am perfectly calm thank you. :o

I was 16 and my dad was trying to make me realise how serious it was
