What's with the holding your ponytail and calling everyone 'my Queen'?

On social media?

Standard look seems to be vacant expression, one leg slightly forward, head on a tilt whole holding the end of your ponytail or a bit of your hair.

Then there are a million comments saying 'My Queen' blah blah blah. Now, I'm all for bigging up others but for the love of God, really?

I should just add that I'm very tired and grumpy today so this may just be me being a mardy cow.

Oh yes...

My teenage DNs seem to always have their heads tilted to one side, hair in a ponytail that they often hold, black heart emojis.

Comments are either the fire emoji or "YASS KWEEN".

I guess I must be old.

My friend has taught his 2yr old niece to snap her fingers, strike a pose and say "yass kween" to him. Another one's toddler pouts and says "bring on the prosecco" and "sexy biatch". I find it really disturbing tbh.

awaits pearl clutching accusations with bated breath

When I was 18 our terms of endearment were, "you twat", "you wanker", or for the more delicate of language "you prune".

I saw a card yesterday that said "You're a twat, but you're my twat and I love you." that was the kind of card we'd exchange for 18th birthdays.

Maybe we were just all really unkind in the early 00s. Maybe that's why I have such low self esteem..

Isn't the ponytail head tilt an Ariana Grande thing?

I'm very old. Far too old to do more than just laugh at how silly they look.

Namechange84 · 19/10/2019 13:33

Yes Grande is their absolute Queen, the ponytail and head tilt stemmed from her.

YorkieTheRabbit · 19/10/2019 13:36

I’ve not seen it but I’m 52 and my social media is more along the lines of gardening and home type stuff Smile to be honest I’d start sporting a crown, (even if it was a paper one out of a cracker), if someone called me Queen Grin

I get irrationally annoyed when my DS spells ‘yeah’ as ‘yea’ which to me is sort of a Shakespearean yes, pronounced yay and goes with ‘verily.’

SpiderCharlotte · 19/10/2019 13:49

Yes there's a lot of those 🔥🔥🔥too, to go along with the comments or another I've seen is 'I can't even ...' which vexes me greatly. Can't even what? What can't you even?

I love the positivity of it though, nowt much wrong with that. 😊

DS10 and his pals all spell ‘yeah’ as ‘ye’. I’m irrationally annoyed by it.

I hate "cant even". Another one is "as if" added onto beginning of sentences and I'm not sure why. Like, in the 90s people would exclaim "As if!" meaning a kind of "no way". But now they say things like "As if we just went to the Ariana Grande concert!" Eh....well, you did didn't you? Did you or didn't you? What's your point? Confused

Namechange84 · 19/10/2019 14:36

"I literally cannot even...ugh"

Anyone able to translate for me? Confused

AlunWynsKnee · 19/10/2019 14:38

Dd was doing the 'Ye' thing for a while but she has reverted to actual words again now. I didn't realise it was a thing.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/10/2019 14:44

There never seems to be any non staged fun pics. When we had cameras with films in the daft ones were the ones we most looked forward to seeing when film got developed.

Hate the "YAASSS"

WineIsMyCarb · 19/10/2019 14:47

Yea verily! 😂

You twats Grin

snottysystem · 19/10/2019 14:56

The whole yes queen thing is the new you go girl except it's not really that new but maybe more mainstream?

I can't even is when something is uber amazing/ridiculous/shocking that you can't express it in words.

I don't use social media & i'm in my 30s but have heard these phrases 10 yrs ago at least.

snottysystem · 19/10/2019 14:58

I'm still struggling with seeing all the teens rehashing the 90s fashion trends. Odd mixture of feeling wistful but also shame 😂

snottysystem · 19/10/2019 15:04

Beyonce has being holding her ponytail for at least 10 years

Oldraver · 19/10/2019 16:35

DS is nearly 14...today I asked him about FB as I was posting yet another Twonks On Tour photo from a train station (whenever they go off to football)

He pulleda face and said he may get Twitter...he doesn't know what he would want to get FB for....Well that told me

She must be knackered by now.

in the 90s people would exclaim "As if!" meaning a kind of "no way".

There used to be a character in Eastenders called Asif and my friend didn't realise that was his name and asked me why everyone kept saying "as if" to him!
