Menopause - it can't be THAT easy can it?

I have suspected I'm peri menopausal for some time. I'm very early 40's so it's quite early but DM had hers early too so I guessed not unexpected?

I'm done with babies and frankly rather bored with periods so it's not something I can get too het up about.

Periods have always been regular, but the last one came about ten days early (I remember the day exactly as I had dental surgery at the same time) and was much lighter than normal. This month, nothing Confused
It's now been 45 days since my last period, previously I would have been 32 days.

Could it really be that easy, or am I in for a dreadful shock next month? I'll be rather chuffed if this is it TBH Grin

Obviously it helps if you have a sympathetic partner. Unfortunately I was married to a caveman.

Mine stopped suddenly at 43 never to return. Cue complacent me for 2 years 'it's all so easy, ,what's the fuss?'... then the actual phase of menopause hit.

I'm 48, not sleeping, anxious, tired, lots more besides, skinny as a reed but ANY fat goes on my stomach.

You have a long way to go before you get proper symptoms, you'll only be menopausal and feel full effects (if you do) two complete years with no period and proper drop in oestrogen.

And I hope you don't.

Troels · 18/10/2019 21:24

I don't think you are done yet.
Mine would stop for a few moths and then return for a few and be regular as clockwork, only to stop again.
Finally after about 5 years of this they finally stopped altogether. and then the fun started. All the sweats and dizziness, and and feeling like I was having a panic attack, and losing my mind. Forgetting things, even with lists, tiredness, insomnia, you name it. HRT has been my life saver.

Boris
Agnus Castus. The Vogel drops not the capsules. I swear, take it daily after your period starts and it will stop you bleeding on and on. I don't know why it works but it does!

CyberPixie · 18/10/2019 21:35

42, been peri for at least a year. They've gone really light but lasting longer 7-9 days instead of my usual 5. Some months I'm at least 2 weeks late but more commonly I've been getting a week early or even 2 weeks between. That's the earlier stage of peri. Late stage peri is when you go months between each one, then get the odd one. Some lucky people just stop and that's it but that's not as common.

I'm getting night sweats and hot flushes already, pmt is worse and insomnia right before period starts for several nights usually waking every 2hrs or not getting to sleep for hours it both!

Both my mum and nan were 56/58 when theirs stopped completely so I bloody hope mine isn't going to carry on until then!

diddl · 18/10/2019 21:38

I missed a period, then had two within a month.

Nothing for a year, then one, then nothing!

No flooding.

So pretty easy, I would say.

Apart from the hot flushes...

RueCambon · 21/10/2019 22:26

I remember my mother running around dramatically! I got hot flushes in the summer when it was hot anyway, and I just sat still waiting for it to pass. At its worst I was having 12 an hour (roughly!) but I never had to get up and run around. I just stayed still and let it pass. I was at my desk..........

CamVegOut · 20/12/2019 08:23

I always had regular, non issue periods. I started peri menopause at 35 and had completely stopped period by 40. 46 now no issues (except for a belly which I am working on). Had slight night sweats but nothing like my friends. Hot flushes were very mild, not often and just a 30 second affair. I never had pmt so I would imagine that is why it carried on to menopause. (my mother and sisters all had early menopause).

CamVegOut · 20/12/2019 08:24

The only pain for me has been my sleep patterns are still terrible. Can't remember the last time I slept a full night 😢

Samcro · 20/12/2019 08:38

you might be lucky. i was. I had the mirena though and apart from a few hot flushes and memory being bad, I kind of sailed through it. I am a lot older than you though.

Zaphodsotherhead · 20/12/2019 10:01

I had a Mirena coil fitted so never noticed my periods stopping as I didn't have any. I sat up (aged 53) and thought 'I wonder if I'm menopausal'?

Am now 59 and should be post menopausal, but lack of any symptoms (I was rather looking forward to hot flushes, I am FREEZING all the time) means it's rather hard to tell.

Not everyone has a miserable time of it. As with pregnancy and childbirth, some people just sail through and, therefore, don't have a story to tell.

PickAChew · 20/12/2019 10:08

I've bounced along for a good decade. Just had a light period after a 361 day cycle. It wasn't that big a surprise as I had signs it was on its way but I'm glad I had kept supplies in!

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 20/12/2019 10:15

I’m 43 and Luke a poster said above- I’m finding peri menopause quite confusing and emotional.
My periods are painful and I’ve been experiencing flooding which is new and horrible.
Anxiety through the roof!!
Poor sleep
Very emotional
My smear came back clear and I’m just waiting for results if my blood test before I get the coil fitted to hopefully provide some respite.
I know one thing though... I never go to the doctors and I’m very much head down push through kind of person but I can’t manage this for the foreseeable future alone. I definitely need medical help if some kind.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 20/12/2019 10:16

Sorry for the typos Blush fat fingers ( add weight gain to the above list)

FabbyChix · 20/12/2019 11:58

Mine just stopped eight years ago and that was it. Some flushes in the night sometimes during the day but nothing else
